No More Heroes Creator Wants to Make a Movie or TV Adaptation

With No More Heroes 3 on its way, series creator Suda 51 has begun making the rounds for press releases and interviews, giving fans an inside look at the making of the upcoming sequel. However, one of these recent sneak peeks has shed some new light on a longtime wish from the developer to introduce the world of No More Heroes to new fans through the medium of film.

Considering how many video games have been used as inspiration for movies over the years, there is certainly a market for a No More Heroes adaptation into a film or series. According to Suda 51, this might still be a ways from actually being a reality, but there have been talks behind the scenes of development for getting some sort of adaptation made for the highly stylized world.

In an interview conducted by IGN with developer Suda 51 and artist Darick Robertson, best known as co-creator of the graphic novel The Boys, the question was raised about getting a a film adaptation of the runtime of No More Heroes. Suda 51's answer suggests that there certainly is an interest in adapting the game and its sequels into a movie or series at some point in the future. Unfortunately, there don't seem to be any plans of for releasing this type of adaptation anytime soon, even if there had previously been attempts at getting a similar project started.

While there is currently no attempt being made at seeing No More Heroes' epic boss fights brought to life in film, there have been previous offers to Suda 51 to get work on this type of project. According to the developer, one of these offers even got so far as to decide on who would play the protagonist of the movie of TV series, but it eventually fell through shortly after. Still, Suda 51 does look forward to hopefully getting an offer that pans out, preferably to be released through a streaming service like Amazon Prime or Hulu.

When it comes to the art style and story of the No More Heroes games, they might lend themselves more to animation than they do to live action. However, recreating some of the more stylized weapons of the series like Speed Buster's Buster Launcher, or Travis' iconic Beam Katana, could be an incredible sight in live action, especially if done with practical effects. Given the other high-profile games getting adaptations in the near-future, seeing that there might be interest from both the developer and fans to see a new series might hopefully get a No More Heroes show made.

No More Heroes 3 is set to release August 27th for Switch.
