Outer Wilds: Dark Bramble Guide

The Outer Wilds is one of the most unique video games to release in recent years. It takes you across space on a journey to unlock the secrets of the Outer Wilds Solar System, which spans over many planets and structures. It's an exploration game that doesn't feature combat.

One of the most bizarre areas in the Outer Wilds is Dark Bramble, the remnants of a planet that used to exist in the Solar System. There are many important story and gameplay elements inside Dark Bramble, so here's a guide on each area in Dark Bramble and how to explore it.

What Is Dark Bramble?

Dark Bramble is a collection of passages to different areas, and it's the remnants of the fifth ice planet which imploded into what now exists as this strange area in space.

There are many vines inside Dark Bramble, which make up a majority of its structure. Inside, you'll encounter the terrifying Anglerfish enemy, which can swallow your spaceship if you're not careful. Dark Bramble is one of the most unique locations in video game history.

How To Enter Dark Bramble

You can fly to Dark Bramble in your spaceship, and once at the seed, you'll need to fly into one of its many openings. However, you can't move quickly because the Anglerfish will sense your ship if you do.

Instead, move slowly into Dark Bramble while controlling your spaceship.

What Are The Properties Of Dark Bramble?

Dark Bramble isn't an ordinary planet; instead, it's a space-bending structure that has an interior much larger than it's small exterior. There are many openings on the outside of Dark Bramble, but they all lead into the Hub Node area of Dark Bramble.

Everything notable about Dark Bramble is inside the structure; the outside of it isn't important.

How To Deal With The Anglerfish

Since most of the nodes in Dark Bramble have at least a few Anglerfish found within them, it's important to know how to navigate around this enemy.

You can't defeat Anglerfish, so instead, you have to slowly move around so they can't hear you move throughout Dark Bramble. Anglerfish are blind, so you don't have to worry about them spotting you, but they have a great sense of hearing.

The Anglerfish emit a light that looks similar to the portals found within the structure, so you have to watch out for them, so you don't confuse the two lights.

Activate the spaceship thrusters slowly; don't move too quickly, or they'll hear you. If you get eaten by the Anglerfish, then you'll be defeated and have to start back at the beginning of the time loop. The nest node has five Anglerfish within it, and three of them are near the entrance, so be careful while inside this node.

All Of Dark Bramble's Nodes

There are eight unique nodes in Dark Bramble, so you may get confused about which is which and how to reach each of them. Here's a description of each node inside of Dark Bramble and everything you need to know about them.

The Hub Node

The hub node is where you'll initially end up after entering Dark Bramble from the space. This area is filled with vines, and there are lots of Anglerfish throughout the area, so it's crucial to move very slowly while in this area.

The Dead End Node

This node doesn't contain anything of interest other than one Anglerfish.

The Recursion Node

The Recursion Node isn't interesting; it's essentially just the Dead End Node, except it has one extra seed to enter.

The Escape Pod Node

The Escape Pod Node is essential for completing your quest in Dark Bramble since it's part of the main story. You can read more about how to travel to it below.

The Feldspar's Camp Mode

Feldspar's Camp contains the character Feldspar, who pushes the main story forward.

The Feldspar's Maze Node

Feldspar's Maze Node is one of the most interesting areas in Dark Bramble because you can hear Feldspar's signal inside of it.

The Vessel Node

The ship that carried the Nomai to the solar system is the core component of the Vessel Node. You won't find any Anglerfish in this area, so you don't have to move slowly while exploring it.

The Nest Node

There are five Anglerfish inside of the Nest Node, so make sure to be careful while traversing it. Furthermore, three Anglerfish are guarding the entrance of this area which is important to keep in mind while exploring it.

How To Locate Feldspar

One of the most important reasons to enter Dark Bramble is to find Feldspar, a character that was lost long ago during a voyage into space. After entering Dark Bramble, you'll end up in the hub node, and you'll need to continue following the signal being emitted by your Signalscope.

Be careful around the Anglerfish within Dark Bramble, they're blind, and you need to move slowly while your spaceship is near them. Once you reach the portal that the signal is coming from, send your scout into it and then head into it yourself.

When you enter the portal, you'll notice three separate paths your scout had split into; you should follow the far left signal to find Feldspar. There are also Anglerfish in this area, so move slowly and make little noise.

Once you reach the next portal, you can travel into it, and you'll come across a large Anglerfish skeleton. Inside of this skeleton is where Feldspar resides, waiting for you to talk to him. Feldspar will give you a hint for Dark Bramble, so make sure to listen closely while conversing with him.

How To Locate The Frozen Jellyfish Corpse

Getting to the frozen jellyfish from Feldspar's camp is an easy task. Once you leave the camp, move towards the back of the Anglerfish skeleton. You'll soon see Feldspar's spaceship. You don't need to interact with it, but instead, you should head into the tunnel nearby.

Once you move through this hole, you should go up and to the left. Eventually, you'll warp and come across an ice path. If you follow this path, then you'll quickly find the frozen jellyfish. You can then listen to Feldspar's recording, and you'll find a note inside of the jellyfish body.

How To Locate The Third Escape Pod And The Vessel

The final task to complete in Dark Bramble is locating the escape pod. You should enter Dark Bramble as usual, but change the Signalscope to the Distress Beacon frequency.

You need to move to the right and enter a new seed. Then you'll be in the proper location for finding the escape pod. Move to the right and downward. You still need to avoid Anglerfish in this area, so don't move too quickly through the vines.

If you keep following the signal, then you'll arrive at escape pod three. You have to move around to the back with your spaceship, where you'll come across an entrance. Read everything you find on the Nomai computer before leaving. This will reveal the path of lights that the Nomai left for you to discover.

You now have to follow the special trail of lights that the Noami created, which will lead you to your next destination. Once you reach the Nomai Grave, you should inspect the seed outside of your spaceship and fire your scout into it.

Move slowly into the next seed since three Anglerfish are waiting for you at the entrance. Once you've maneuvered around the Anglerfish, you can follow the signal to the next seed you have to enter.

Once you've entered the next seed, follow the final signal to the Vessel, and move around it to the tunnel on the side of it to enter the structure.

Once you're inside of the Vessel, take a left turn, and you'll enter the main control room. Although you can't yet operate the machinery inside of the Vessel's control room, you can read the text that the Nomai left behind. Move to the second floor of the Vessel, where you'll learn about messages from the Nomai and the Vessel Captain's original distress call.
