Overwatch Summer Games 2021 Start Tomorrow

Overwatch's annual Summer Games returns tomorrow – July 20 – and it will be running until August 10.

The fan-favorite Lucioball mode is returning. For those who don't know, this Arcade mode is akin to football (soccer for you Americans) but, rather than kicking the ball around, you blast it with your ol' Lucio gun. Everybody's a Lucio, by the way, since I somehow forgot that vital detail. The aim is to blast the balls into the goals just as with soccer but it's amped up by the faster movement speed and more futuristic arsenal that's been brought onto the pitch.

Already, Blizzard has revealed a slew of skins on Twitter such as Mermaid Symmetra which looks exactly like it sounds, Poolside Ashe which sees her dress a bit more casually like she's at a beach party, and Sprinkles Mei which sees her donning a classic ice cream truck uniform. She even has the little white hat. There are also all of the old skins such as Sand Castle Bastion, Catcher Winston, and Lifeguard McCree. Or, get into the spirit of American football with Gridironhardt, a Reinhardt getup.

You'll be able to buy all these new skins with in-game currency but they will also be, as per usual, available in the Summer-themed lootboxes that replace the standard ones.

There will also be three sets of weekly challenges, although what these are isn't known just yet – we'll find out tomorrow. Typically, these are three wins, six wins, and nine wins, all netting you some themed items. Typically, it's a player icon, spray, and then a skin. Last year – for example – week one was themed around Union Jack, Tracer's epic skin.

All you need to do to partake in the event is download the update, so have fun when it rolls around tomorrow.
