The Pokemon TV series and countless animated movies have long been an unmistakably important part of the beloved IP. Just as the games, trading cards, apparel, and more have helped Pikachu and pals reach cultural phenomenon pop culture staus, the shows and movies have done the same. And now a new entry looks to be added to the list with Pokemon Evolutions, a limited series that will begin in just a week.
In part to celebrate the 25-year anniversary of Pokemon, The Pokemon Company International announced a brand new series with the help of a stunning trailer. The eight-episode series will span the eight regions of the franchise, as each mainline Pokemon title has taken place in a new region. Fans will not have to wait long to enjoy the series, as it debuts on Pokemon TV and on the official Pokemon YouTube channel on September 9, 2021.

Pokemon Evolutions will examine stories in each region from the games but in reverse chronological order from when they were released. This means that even though Pokemon Red and Blue were the first games and they took place in Kanto, that region will be the last to be explored on the show on December 23, 2021. Meanwhile, Pokemon Sword and Shield's Galar will be the first. Everyone has their favorite region in Pokemon, this new show will be an excellent way to discover them in new ways. The exact schedule of the show, including the title of each episode and region, is as follows:
- September 9, 2021 – Galar region, “The Champion”
- September 23, 2021 – Alola region, “The Eclipse”
- October 7, 2021 – Kalos region, “The Vision”
- October 21, 2021 – Unova region, “The Plan”
- December 2, 2021 – Sinnoh region, “The Rival”
- December 9, 2021 – Hoenn region, “The Wish”
- December 16, 2021 – Johto region, “The Show”
- December 23, 2021 – Kanto region, " The Quest"
The goal of the series is to provide something that is fresh, but also nostalgic. The vice president of marketing for The Pokemon Company International, Colin Palmer, made that clear in the press release today. Even the upcoming Pokemon Legends: Arceusappears to fall within that same line of thinking in terms of bringing a new style of gameplay to the franchise while still remaining firm in what fans love about the core experience.
The trailer itself for Pokemon Evolutions that came along with today's reveal is rather breathtaking, as it shows off a high-level anime art style and polish that the standard Pokemon TV series never quite received. The series will apparently tell tales of Pokemon and trainers that fans may be somewhat familiar with, but they will be shared from a brand new perspective. This beloved franchise in gaming and pop culture started 25 years ago, so it makes perfect sense to celebrate with a series that will conclude where it all began.
Pokemon Evolutions will debut on September 9, 2021.
