Pokemon GO: Where to Find Voltorb | Game Rant

Pokemon GO trainers smashed every Global Challenge thrown at them during GO Fest 2021, and as a reward have received additional Ultra Unlock challenges. One of them is a timed research task, and stage 2 asks trainers to catch 5 Voltorb.

The electric-type Pokemon (who is easily spotted by its Pokeball-like appearance) isn’t usually an easy find, but its spawn rate has been boosted for the special event. There are a few tricks for increasing the chances of finding Voltorb in Pokemon GO to complete this task quicker, or if players want to farm for the shiny.

As an Electric-type Pokemon, there are a few specific conditions that increase the odds that Voltorb will spawn in Pokemon GO, including:

  • Checking industrial areas with a lot of concrete, and little greenery
  • Playing in or around college campuses
  • Searching in dry climates
  • Searching while it’s raining
  • Playing in a city

It might be inconvenient for rural players to go to a city or industrial area just to try and find Voltorb. For those unable to meet any of the above conditions, finding a PokeStop, using a Lure Module or Magnetic Lure Module, and activating an Incense has a very high chance of spawning a lot of the electric-type.

Lure Modules can be purchased from the shop for 100 PokeCoins, or 8 Modules can be bought for 680 PokeCoins. Magnetic Lure Modules are a little more pricey at 200 Pokecoins, and can’t be purchased in bulk. Incense is available for 40 Pokecoins, or 8 for 250 Pokecoins. If trainers catch 5 Voltorb, they will still have to transfer 7 Pokemon and send 3 gifts to friends if they want to unlock stage 3 of the special Ultra Unlock research task.

Voltorb can be shiny in Pokemon GO, and this is the perfect time to farm for its blue-white variant. Repeating the steps found above is the best way to get a shiny Voltorb:

  • Find a PokeStop, or cluster of PokeStops, in an industrial area or college campus
  • Activate a Lure Module or Magnetic Lure Module on as many PokeStops trainers can afford
  • Put on an Incense and walk between PokeStops searching for that Voltorb shiny

Trainers lucky enough to live in a dry climate, or who are playing while it’s raining will increase their chances even further of finding a shiny. Teaming up with friends to share Lure Modules is a good idea if trainers want to save their hard-earned Pokecoins. Make sure to keep farming for shiny Voltorb even if 1 is caught, as it evolves into Electrode, so 2 will need to be caught to complete the set.
