A new episode of Pokemon Journeys has poked fun at the creators and subsequent believers of a fake Mega Klinklang leak that did the rounds years ago.
25 years on from its inception and Pokemon's roster has grown to be almost 1000 monsters strong at this point. It's a wonder that its creators are still able to come up with new ideas for Pokemon after all these years, and also no wonder that they seem to be a little uninspired at times.
Among the 898 Pokemon created so far, there's a garbage bag with a face, a sentient ice cream cone, and a bunch of keys brought to life. However, none of those have received as much criticism as Klink – and its evolution Klinklang – the gear Pokemon. Klink is nothing more than two gears joined together with a few eyes and a couple of mouths thrown on for good measure.

The lack of inspiration involved in Klink and Klinklang's designs may have been why a lot of people fell for a fake leak revealing Mega Klinklang's design years ago. The fanmade Pokemon is nothing more than a bunch of Klinks joined together to form a giant, very odd-looking robot. According to Reddit, the text on the image, which is all in Japanese, highlights that people will definitely fall for the trick and lists some odd moves for the fake Pokemon.

It might have been a while since the fake leak did the rounds, but the creators of anime Pokemon Journeys haven't forgotten. In a recent episode, Ash interacts with a gentleman running a stall that has a border of Klinks all joined together. Klink's Japanese name translates to Gear, and its fake evolved form in the show is rather amusingly called Gegegegegegegegegegear.

When the man admits he invented the Pokemon to advertise his stall, Ash and Goh whip out sketches of it, asking him to explain. He then admits that he drew those too. Perhaps that's the show's creator's way of admitting they or someone else inside the Pokemon bubble created Mega Klinklang as a joke. We may never know for sure. Don't be disheartened, though. You might not be able to celebrate Pokemon turning 25 by catching a Mega Klinklang, but you can do so by playing Pokemon Unite later this month or by listing to Katy Perry's Electric, a song all about Pokemon.
