Pokemon Unite Launches July 21 For Switch, September For Mobile

Pokemon Unite has finally got a release date, as confirmed on the official Twitter account. A new trailer confirms that the multiplayer spin-off will be available to download on Nintendo Switch July 21. There's no specific date set for the mobile launch, but it should be with us at some point in September.

For anyone looking to check it out next week, Pokemon Unite will be free-to-play, and also does not require paid online membership. The 5v5 MOBA will instead make money through an in-game currency, called Aeos Gems, Coins, and Tickets. These in turn buy Unite Licences, which is how you acquire new Pokemon.

Much like other live service titles, Pokemon Unite will also have season passes. These will unlock challenges that can be completed in order to win rewards. As shown off in the latest trailer, the game is also full of cosmetics for both your trainer and 'mon. Again, these will be bought using the microcurrency.

Both releases of Pokemon Unite – Switch and mobile – will have cross-play. You can use the same account on both platforms, but you cannot share currency between them, just your trainer and team.

As part of a launch deal, anyone who logs on to Pokemon Unite before August 31 gets a free Zeraora, an electric-type mythical Pokemon introduced in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.
