PS5 Might Cost $449, Digital Edition Might Dip Below $400, Says Analyst

With the PS5 Showcase going live tomorrow, it is expected that Sony will finally be unveiling the price and concrete launch date of the PS5 very soon, especially with Microsoft already having done so for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. It’s been a long time coming, so the timing seems right.

There’s been plenty of speculation about what the PS5 and its digital-only variant will end up costing. While most have predicted prices of $499 and $399 respectively, according to Bloomberg analyst Masahiro Wakasugi, Sony might even be targeting lower prices than that. According to Wakasugi, the PS5 might retail for $449, while the PS5 Digital Edition might even dip below $400 in price.

With the Xbox Series S allowing people to purchase a new next-gen console at the compelling price of $299, it makes sense that Sony will be considering competitive prices for their own console as well, and if their flagship PS5 ends up costing less than the Xbox Series X, that would be a big point in its favour.

Of course, this is unconfirmed for now, so take it with a grain of salt. We’ll find out soon either way (hopefully).

In the aforementioned Bloomberg report, it was also mentioned that Sony was cutting down the PS5’s initial production by 4 million units due to manufacturing issues with its SoC. Read more on that through here.
