Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced PS5 ships over 10.1 million units while the PS4 ships over 116.4 million units worldwide, news confirmed in their latest financial report.
While PS5 ships over 10.1 million units, the company recently announced that PS5 shipments managed to break 10 million units. PS4 shipments had reached over 115.9 million units as recently as April of this year, while PS5 shipments were around 7.8 million units in the same time frame.
The new milestone was reached in the fiscal period that last three months and ended on June 30th, 2021. An estimated 2.3 million PlayStation 5 consoles and half a million PlayStation 4 consoles were shipped during the same three months.
Sony’s internal forecasts were close, however PlayStation 4 shipments were down 1.4 million units from the 1.9 million shipped during the same time period in the last fiscal year. This makes sense considering the PlayStation 5 wasn’t out yet at that time – so now the PS5 is taking some of those hardware sales.
