First released in 2018 on PS4, Xbox One, and later PC, Rockstar Games’ open-world western Red Dead Redemption 2 is absolutely crammed-packed with details. The massively ambitious title impressed players upon release with its incredible technical prowess and continues to hold up well today, despite Red Dead Redemption 2 fans clamoring for a much deserved next-generation upgrade.
Featuring a vast landscape, impressive draw distance, and ridiculously detailed textures, Red Dead Redemption 2 is a sight to behold at both a micro and macro scale. There’s more to the game than just sheer graphical fidelity too. The title’s lengthy development, large budget, and talented developers have filled the game's world with plenty of handcrafted touches that make it feel that much more alive.

With much of the game being set in the wilderness, Red Dead Redemption 2 has a sizable amount of wildlife featured in the game, each with its own animations, AI, and routines. Part of the fun of the game’s dynamic world is seeing how all these different elements and creatures can interact with one another. A TikTok video posted by user hiddengamingdetails shows off one of these incredible hidden-away details. The clip shows a close-up of a large moose grazing in the title with a small blue jay resting on its back.

This isn’t a set moose with a bird on its back either, the two independent creatures are actually interacting with each other in real-time. The video has become a big hit on TikTok, earning over two hundred thousand views and nearly fifty thousand likes as of this writing.
Small touches like these go a long way towards making Red Dead Redemption 2’s sprawling game world feel more alive than its contemporaries. Rockstar Games has certainly made a name for itself with its dynamic open worlds in its massive hit Grand Theft Auto series, and it seems like with each successive title it manages to one-up itself even further. It will be interesting to see what Rockstar can pull off with Grand Theft Auto 6.
Of course, Rockstar Games isn’t the only developer that focuses on vast open worlds and emergent gameplay. Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls series is also known for its sheer openness and Ubisoft has plenty of open-world titles of its own. Still, no other developer can seem to pack as much detail and interaction into its games as Rockstar manages to with titles like Red Dead Redemption 2.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is available on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
