Resident Evil Village Second PC Performance Patch Coming August 24

Resident Evil Village's PC port is getting another patch next week, August 24. According to the official Twitter account, the update will focus on fixing an issue where certain CPUs are unable to launch the game, as well as polishing graphical processes.

This is the second patch Village has received in August, with the problematic port already getting an update last week. This follows a wave of controversy stemming from the cracked version of Village running better than the official release on Steam.

The main issue that PC players have encountered is a significant drop in frame rate during certain in-game scenarios. In combat, there are some animations that will always cause visible stuttering, and there's a noticeable frame rate drop when you encounter one of Lady Dimitrescu's daughters.

Fans suspect this problem is caused by the game's DRM. This theory started because the main difference between the better performing pirated copy and the official release is that the former has no DRM, and these stuttering issues are completely absent. Capcom has not confirmed whether or not this is the cause, but does acknowledge the difference in performance.

In a statement to TheGamer, Capcom promised to address this disparity "soon". It remains to be seen if these are enough to address the performance issues.

Yet Capcom currently has enough going on to keep itself busy. It recently delayed the multiplayer spin-off, Resident Evil Re:Verse, just days before its intended launch. It has now been pushed back to sometime in 2022, after originally being intended to launch at the same time as Resident Evil Village.

All of this controversy hasn't hurt the sales however, as Village recently surpassed 4.5 million copies sold. It's on track to reach the heights of its predecessor, Resident Evil 7 Biohazard, which sold 8.5 million copies in four years. The sales were likely boosted by its multi-gen release, as it launches across PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S simultaneously.
