Should You Buy The Standard Or Deluxe Edition Of New World?

Quick Links

New World, Amazon's brand new MMO, is currently in closed Beta. If you pre-ordered either the Standard or Deluxe Edition of the game you would've got access between July 20 and the beginning of August. You can still order now to get access.

But if you get closed beta access with both Editions, what are the benefits of purchasing the Deluxe Edition? And is it worth it? We break down the pros and cons of spending an extra 10 dollars on the Deluxe Edition.

What Do You Get With The Standard Edition Of New World?

The Standard Edition of New World is available to pre-order on Steam for $39.99. There are currently no microtransactions in New World, although there is a suggestion that they will be added at a later date. You pay that price upfront and that's it.

Here's what you get for your money:

  • Access to the Closed Beta that runs from July 20 to August 2.
  • Isabella's Amulet, an item in-game that boosts your defense and increases damage against some enemies. Useful if you want to level up fast at the start of the full release.
  • You get the "Expedition One" title in-game, which shows off that you were part of the first group of players in the game.
  • A Fist Bump emote.
  • A set of Guild Crest items, which includes axes, muskets, and armor pieces.

The only thing that stands out here is Isabella's Amulet. It provides an actual real boost rather than just pre-order exclusive items.

What Do You Get With The Deluxe Edition Of New World?

The Deluxe Edition of New World costs $49.99 and grants you everything from the Standard Edition as well as this extra content.

  • The Woodsman Armor Skin, a cosmetic set that you can apply to armor in-game.
  • The Woodsman Hatchet Skin, a cosmetic that you can apply to the Hatchet in-game.
  • A Mastiff house pet, which you can let loose in your home. You get access to player housing at level 20.
  • A Rock/Paper/Scissors emote set. Can be used with other players.
  • A New World Digital Artbook with a bunch of concept art for the game.

Is The Deluxe Edition Of New World Worth It?

The Deluxe Edition is worth it if you care about exclusive items. Those Woodman cosmetics are likely only available as pre-order items, so if you want to flex later on then it's worth the extra 10 dollars.

You can see what the Woodsman Armor set looks like in this image:

The Woodland Armor skin isn't the best looking thing in the world, so even if it is an exclusive item you might not even be wearing it, considering some of the neat armor designs in New World.

Despite not getting many useful items with the Deluxe Edition, considering the massive size of New World, a $49.99 price tag is also fairly reasonable. You don't have to pay any subscription fee later on, although there might be microtransactions introduced in the future. Hopefully only for cosmetics, though.

Should You Buy The Deluxe Edition?

Arguably, the most useful item from either the Standard or Deluxe Edition is the Isabella's Amulet item. This is just a straight-up boost for your early game, which will come in handy when you start the grind all over again come August 30. Yep. All the progress you make during the Closed Beta will be wiped, so don't get too attached to your character if you do pre-order.

So, in conclusion: if you want to spend 10 dollars on some exclusive skins, go ahead. But really, there isn't a massive difference between the two, and if you purchase the Standard Edition you won't be missing out on anything too important. You get Isabella's Amulet with both Editions, which is the most important thing. That Mastiff might be kind of cool, though…
