Smite Welcomes New Hunter Goddess Charybdis and New Odyssey: Perilous Seas Event

You Will Take Part

Greek mythology is filled with terrifying gods and even more terrifying monsters, but some entities walk the line between the two. Charybdis, the rebellious daughter of Poseidon who helped her father flood the Earth and was punished by being chained up deep below the sea, is one of these ambiguous cases. She’s also the newest Hunter goddess added to the ranks of Smite, and like her counterpart Scylla, she’s out for blood.

Smite has chosen to represent this by having her appear mostly humanoid–and even child-like–but with her arm replaced by the ravenous creature known as the Maw. The result is a tiny, almost spritely figure with mismatched glowing eyes, chilling shapeshifting abilities, and a massive bone to pick with the gods who mistreated her.

Charybdis’ kit includes deadly projectiles, debuffs, and transforming into a mobile whirlpool, and that’s not even touching on her Ultimate, which reveals the true fury of the Maw. Under the influence of her Ultimate, known as The Maw Hungers, she becomes immune to crowd control, gains movement speed, and can make one very powerful attack.

If her Ultimate kills a God, however, the Maw’s hunger will only grow, allowing her to re-use the ability. This is very fitting for a goddess–or monster–whose legend mostly revolves around her ceaseless hunger. All we can say is ‘don’t feed the waves.’

Also available now is a new SMITE Odyssey event, known as Perilous Seas. Players will sail around the land, traveling through locations chronicled in ancient mythology, and face the terror of Charybdis and Scylla reunited in the new Strait of Messina territory.

Perilous Seas will gradually release dozens of skins over 2022, both purchasable and free. Eight skins are already available, including the iconic, hilarious, and terrifying Unlimited Edition ‘Tier 5’ quality skin Toon Mania Cthulhu. Smite is so proud of this skin that it featured Toon Mania Cthulhu prominently in a live-action commercial, which left us both enthusiastic and deeply concerned.
