Some Fans Think New Destiny 2 Armor is Copying Halo | Game RantRichard WarrenGame Rant – Feed

Since splitting from Activision, Bungie has been doing its best to rework Destiny 2 through updates and expansions as well as possibly through the upcoming Content Vault. With a free-to-play structure, new content, and the upcoming Beyond Light expansion, the studio has worked hard to change the narrative around Destiny 2. Some of the new content on the way for Beyond Light includes armor sets, and some fans have noticed that one set of armor looks a bit familiar.

The armor set for the Titan class is quite different from other looks that will be included inside Destiny 2: Beyond Light. It features a helmet oddly reminiscent of a character previously created by Bungie. Master Chief, the iconic hero of the Halo universe, seems to be the inspiration for the design. Based on a “can I copy your homework?” meme tweeted out by Twitter user Kolddeth, it is hard to argue that the two helmets are not at least a bit similar.

While the lower half of the outfit looks nothing like Chief’s Mjolnir power armor, the helmet does have a good bit of parallels to the Halo protagonist’s design. The visor on the Destiny helmet, though colored with bright blue lines as opposed to having an orange hue, looks exactly like Chief’s. It also features the dips on each side to make space for the wearer’s nose, though the nose area is a bit wider on the Titan helmet. It is a solid design, and players will likely see it often on Titans as they master their new stasis subclass when Beyond Light arrives.

Only the top of the helmet prevents the Titan design from being a clear copy of the Master Chief look, with a goggle-like area on the Titan’s helmet looking quite different from the top of Chief’s helmet. If anything, the helmet is just as reminiscent of an outfit from the Dead Space series as it is Master Chief’s armor. Isaac Clarke’s look in Dead Space 3, particularly the helmet, looks just like this Titan armor set. Dead Space 3 even featured something like the wool collar seen on the Titan, furthering their similarity. Perhaps a comparison to that suit would be enough to convince EA to finally make a new Dead Space game, though it is unlikely.

Regardless, whether it is an homage to its own work with Chief or an accidental replica, Bungie is in the clear here. It is not similar enough to Master Chief to warrant legal action against Bungie, and even then, it’s hard to imagine suing the team that created the beloved character and series would go over well. After all, Microsoft has enough to worry about with the recent delay of Halo Infinite.

While the fan comparison is plenty of fun, it should not be allowed to distract too much from all the Beyond Light content shown at Gamescom. The future for Destiny seems bright, and when the new content comes, Titans will no doubt be hunting down the “Master Chief” armor set.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light releases on November 10th for PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions will also be released.
