Soulja Boy Says He Now Owns Atari

Soulja Boy is the new owner of Atari, according to… Soulja Boy. There's been no press release from Atari to confirm the change in management and neither has the company released any financial statements confirming the purchase as required by any publicly traded company.

"I am now the owner of Atari. I own the video game company Atari," Soulja Boy stated several times in a video posted to social media. "I'm about to revamp the company. We gonna take Atari to the next level."

Apparently, Atari was "real proud" of the SouljaGame console, which prompted the company to reach out and sign "two deals" with the rapper. Soulja Boy didn't elaborate on the details for either of these two deals, but added he was "the first rapper to own a video game company."

Soulja Boy also said he'd "just signed Tom Hanks' son, Chet Hanks, he got some fire music coming out."

Atari eventually caught wind of Soulja Boy's pronouncements and reminded everyone that Wade Rosen is the current CEO of Atari and not Soulja Boy.

As a reminder, Soulja Boy has been known to make grand announcements that aren't really based in reality. Back in early 2019, Soulja Boy said he'd sold five million of his SouljaGame consoles, when in reality he'd been sued by Nintendo for selling illegal emulation machines. Then he said that his SouljaWatch website had been hacked when it had actually been signed over to Nintendo as part of the settlement.

Then Soulja Boy created another game console, this time a handheld, which once again got taken down along with its website. Most recently, Soulja has returned again saying he's in the process of making a "new console from scratch" with "all new games." Until now, we hadn’t heard from him since then.

Say what you will about the Atari VCS, at least it still exists.
