In this guide, we are going to go over everything you need to know about Gwen, including what her life was like and all the quests you need to complete for her. Gwen is the first spirit you encounter and will help you learn some basics of the game. First, let's take a look at Gwen's life. Story spoilers are included in this article.

Gwen's Life

Gwen is one of the few spirits that knew Stella when she was still alive. During her life, Gwen was Stella's best friend and acted as a 'sister' figure.

Through quests for Gwen, you learn that she is from a well-off family that spent some time in Villa Maggiore.

When Gwen was young, she began smoking. This may have been an act of rebellion against her father, who left her mom when Gwen was young to move in with a boyfriend.

Eventually, Gwen developed lung cancer. During this time, she revisited Villa Maggiore and contemplated committing suicide. At this moment though, Stella was there for her and encouraged Gwen to keep living.

Gwen didn't commit suicide though, and she ultimately died in her forties from lung cancer. As a spirit, you can observe Gwen smoking, even after death.

Where To Find Gwen

As mentioned earlier, Gwen is the first Spirit that you will meet. After you begin the game, there will be a cutscene where Charon tells you about begin a Spiritfarer. When this ends, you will appear in Alt Harbor.

Gwen can be found standing on a platform on the side of a building. She will initially appear as a tall figure wearing a red cloak. Above her, you will see a faint outline of a deer.

Talk to Gwen and she will join your ship, helping you clean it up. There are no additional quests you will need to do prior to having her join you.

Perks

Many Spirit's provide perks based on a specific production building. Gwen will provide perks for the loom. Throughout the day, Gwen may visit the loom and make various threads or cloths.

After using the loom, Gwen will give you these materials.

Lodging

Gwen's house is a two-story lodge. Inside, there will be a living room area, with a ladder that leads to a nook with her bed.

This building will be unlocked after obtaining the first Shrine Ability (double jump). Once you have this ability, Gwen will ask you to build her a house. This will unlock the blueprint, which can be found at your blueprint station above the cabin near the back of the ship.

Building Gwen's lodge will require the following materials.

  • 10 Maple Log
  • 2 Limestone

There are three additional improvements that you can to Gwen's house. Below, you will find all three upgrades, as well as what they cost.

  • 2 Linen Fabric
  • 2 Maple Plank
  • 250 Glim
  • 4 Maple Log
  • 120 Glim

Overall, this is not a lot of material. The resources are available pretty early on in the game, so you should have no problem adding improvements to Gwen's lodge.

Jellyfish Event

There are several gathering events that occur during the game. With Gwen, you will be able to participate in the Jellyfish event.

This is an event where you collect Bright Jelly; a helpful item used in crafting and upgrading several buildings.

To start this event, sail to an area on the map that is dark purple, with a Jellyfish outline. You can see an example of the Jellyfish event location above.

Once you enter into this area, your ship will stop sailing and Gwen will call you over. Talk to her and start the event.

Jellyfish will fly towards your ship from the right. Your goal is to collect as many as possible. To do this, just stand in front of any incoming Jellyfish. The majority will be yellow and yield Glim. Green Jellyfish will drop the Bright Jelly.

Note: If you have already sent Gwen through the Everdoor, you can still participate in this event. Rather than Gwen calling you over to begin, you can go to the front door of her lodge and there will be an option to begin the event.

Quests

Now, let's go over all the quests associated with Gwen. Below, you can find all quests listed in order, as well as what you need to do to complete them.

After the station is upgraded, clear the trash off your boat and build a guest house.

Seeds For The Future

Gwen requests you to buy some seeds. To do this, sail to Mosstein Cove and cut down a maple tree.

With the maple logs, you can build your first field. After the field has been built, head over to Hummingberg and buy seeds from Racoon Inc.

The More, The Merrier

Now, Gwen will want another passenger on the ship. You will need to sail to Barkensheim Creek and talk to the Spirit here, helping him with a quest. This Spirit is Atul, who is your uncle.

Spring Feet

With two Obols from your passengers, you can head to the Shrine in Hummingberg and acquire the double jump ability.

Usonia 1

Cut From The Same Cloth

Build the loom. This will cost 10 maple logs and 8 quartz.

Basic Moves

Gwen wants to teach you how to use the loom, so interact with her and learn how to make thread and cloth.

Back To The Past

At this point, Gwen wants to visit her parent's house, called Villa Maggiore. Sail here and go through the villa. At the top, you will find a loom upgrade and a music box.

More Than Meets The Eye

Use the new loom upgrade to improve the loom. This will cost 10 maple planks, 18 linen thread, 8 bright jelly, and 120 glim. After the loom has been upgraded, give it a try.

Pretty On The Inside

Add all three improvements to Gwen's lodge. The material for each improvement can be found listed above.

Taking Time Off

Gwen doesn't feel so good anymore, so you will need to give her some time. Wait a few days, and then head to Gwen's cabin.

I Must Be Off

Heading into Gwen's cabin will reveal that she isn't there. You will need to talk to other passengers to find out where she went. Eventually, you realize that she is back at Villa Maggiore. Sail there and talk to her.

One Last Time

After finding Gwen, she will express that her time is up and she wants to go through the Everdoor. You can take time before doing this but eventually, you will need to sail to the Everdoor with Gwen.

An emotional cutscene will trigger, as Gwen spends her final moments with her best friend.

Once Gwen has gone through the Everdoor, her constellation will appear in the sky.

And with that, you have finished Gwen's storyline! Since she is the first Spirit that you get to know, her departure can be emotional. Be sure to collect her Spirit Flower that can be found next o the bed in her lodge, and continue on through your journey.
