Take-Two appears to have issued another wave of takedowns for GTA mods, further suggesting the studio has one or more remasters in the works.
As GTA 5's legacy continues to grow eight years on from its initial launch, indicators continue to surface that Take-Two and Rockstar are planning on remastering some of the series' previous games. Most of those indicators have taken the form of DMCA takedowns being issued by Take-Two. The studio has been taking action against mods for its old games, resulting in them being removed by their creators.
The latest site to be hit with what appears to be a slew of takedowns by Take-Two is LibertyCity.net. The site hosts a number of mods that bring elements from older GTA games into newer installments, and also mods that aggregate those elements and various maps from different games.

“Take-Two Interactive requested to remove modifications for GTA games from LibertyCity. The publisher claimed these mods with DMCA strikes,” a new statement on the site reads. Eight mods in total have been removed, all of which are listed on the site. LibertyCity.net's mods are just the latest in a long line to be targeted by Take-Two, fueling rumors that the studio is working on official remasters of games like Vice City and San Andreas.
A project that reverse-engineered GTA 3 and GTA Vice City was when the first to be hit with a takedown. However, the creators of that project have since restored it after thanks to a counterclaim. Take-Two's failure to react to the counterclaim meant legally, the project could once again be distributed and downloaded. If there are GTA remasters in the works, however, the project will likely be removed again in the future.
Take-Two did confirm this week that it is working on new versions of three previously released titles, but hasn't yet revealed what those titles are. It's entirely possible one or more of them could be games from GTA's back catalog. All of the studio's GTA focus will be on GTA 5's enhanced edition for the time being. The PS5 and Series X|S upgrade for the game launches this November.
