Team17 has announced the next game they are publishing. It is called “NARITA BOY” you can watch the official announcement trailer below; it looks fascinating to me – and I am looking forward to playing it.
Narita Boy is developed by the Spanish studio called “Studio Koba”. Narita Boy – the side-scrolling mystical techno-tale releases this spring on Steam, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One (Available on Gamepass day-one). There is no word on a native next-gen port yet, but we will keep you updated as soon as they announce something. Narita Boy aims to be “a heart-felt love story to the 1980s,” and it features a narrative-driven adventure that takes the players to a game inside another game where you have to beat powerful bosses and solve different puzzles to uncover the secrets of Digital Kingdom.
In Narita Boy, you control an eponymous digital warrior who has been chosen to wield the Techno-Sword, a legendary weapon capable of defeating the most dangerous enemies from melee or a distance since it instantly transforms into a shotgun or a laser beam. With the help of this weapon, you will face the Digital Kingdom’s spiritual leader and corrupted enemies, hulking bosses, to save the synth-wave world from the invading stallions, which is a group of rouges. Players will also explore memories of the creator, which reveals his story from his early years in Japan to his creation and connection with the Digital Kingdom.
Narita Boy features classic 2D Platformer elements, and players will be able to explore imaginative landscapes to navigate a plethora of pixel art environments. You will also have to uncover all the lore and secrets to understand Narita Boy’s story completely.
Team 17 has also launched a Saving The World Arcade Campaign, which Narita Boy powers to raise awareness of the plight facing arcade games and arcade amusements. Team17 has partnered with The Strong: National Museum of Play in Rochester, New York, The National Videogame Museum in the UK, and Arcade Vintage: Museo del Videojuego in Spain to ensure this distinct and essential part of video games history is protected and preserved.
