The Ascent: How to Conceal the Drain From the Tokamak Si

As its debut game, Neon Giant's The Ascent delivers an action-packed cyberpunk experience. The game is a top-down shooter with tons of weapons, cyberware upgrades, and cosmetic augmentations for players to discover. Storywise, players take on the role of a worker seeking to stop other factions from seizing control.

That general task is what leads players to one of many main missions, Empowerment. Available after completing Trading Places, players are asked to secure power to strengthen the defenses against the Onyx Void. This entails hacking the RBM-5 Tokamak, a type of fusion reactor in The Ascent. Of course, players won't have the easiest time doing this, though this guide goes into the details.

To start, The Ascent players will absolutely want to have the best weapons, skills, and armor possible. The enemies in this mission are tough, and not to mention, there's a powerful boss at the end of it. In other words, if unprepared, players will take a long time to beat The Ascent, as there's just no easy way to cheese it.

Things kick off in the Deepstink, where the first mission takes place. As a quick refresher, this means players should head to the Arcology, taking an elevator to the Reactor Facilities. Some Ferals will try to reinforce their territory, including a Papa Feral, making for a great opportunity to knock out some stasis overcharge kills. Players should more or less follow the path until they arrive at the reactor facility, RBM-5.

Once here, players will be tasked with three objectives: boosting the cooling system, raising the energy output, and overriding the distribution hub. These are all completed by accessing three panels located within RBM-5. After all of that is said and done, it's time for players to conceal their actions. However, this is easier than it sounds, as the final room contains the Megarachnoid, a large, challenging spider-mech boss. Players must defeat the Megarachnoid in order to conceal the drain and complete the mission.

Whether playing The Ascent solo or with other players, the Megarachnoid is considered the most difficult boss in the game. It's quite the challenge, as it has a long-range flamethrower and tons of mini-spiders that do major explosive damage. On top of that, the fighting area is extremely limited, meaning a high level of evasion and fire-resistant armor are key to survival. Distance and consistent damage are equally as important, ensuring that the spider-mech doesn't overwhelm players before eliminating it.

The Ascent is now available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
