The Ascent Update Is Causing Major Issues On PC

The Ascent has been one of 2021’s sleeper hits. It’s sprawling neon world gave us the cyberpunk aesthetic we so badly needed ever since the whole Cyberpunk 2077 thing. However, the Game Pass PC version wasn’t up to the same standards as the Steam version, lacking ray-tracing and DLSS support. Neon Giant and Curve released patch 2.1.4.0 on Windows 10 and Xbox to bring parity among all versions of the game and fix certain multiplayer bugs. However, it seems the update has caused some major issues.

One of the most common complaints was that of stuttering. I booted up the game to check for myself and can attest that the Game Pass PC version is suffering from major stuttering issues that make it unplayable. I’m not exaggerating when I say this; frame rates have dropped to single digits, and the character can barely keep up with my inputs. Updating my driver or lowering my settings didn’t help with this either.

Other players have been experiencing issues with regard to their cyberdeck. Apparently their levelled up device, which is used to hack into turrets, unlock doors, and grant access to high level chests, have suddenly been wiped down to the base version. This is especially frustrating as the device can only be upgraded by finding rare collectibles strewn across the world. Others are plagued by game crashing issues, and in one case a player experienced a complete character wipe after putting in over 30 hours.

The Ascent’s Twitter handle is currently swamped with players frustrated with these issues. The developer has replied to many of them saying that it’s aware of the problem. It’s asked them to flesh out their exact complaints on the Bug/Issue Reporting page.

It’s unclear as of now how these numerous issues have come to be. While Curve Digital is replying to individual complaints on Twitter, there hasn’t been an official statement as of yet. Hopefully there will be a fix pretty soon, buty considering the small size of the development team, it could take some time.

This can be frustrating, I know, but please don’t be rude to the developers.
