It's been over 10 years since The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword first launched on the Nintendo Wii. With its HD release, things may look different, but the side quests remain the same. Some were the bane of every player's existence, while others offer helpful rewards along Link's journey, making progress a tad easier.

This begs the question: which quests are the best in this specific entry? Of course, every player will have ones they will try to complete as fast as possible, and ones they would rather just ignore. Whichever quests you enjoy doing in this earliest chronological Zelda title, just know – for a few, the experience is worth the effort.
The Errand Boy For The Lumpy Pumpkin
One of the earliest quests in the game sees Link doing various jobs to pay off his debt to the owner of The Lumpy Pumpkin, after breaking his precious chandelier. Why did Link do this? Trying to get a few rupees and a heart piece adorning the ornament, but inadvertently destroying public property in the process.
Your first task is delivering hot pumpkin soup to the Knight Commander back on Skyloft. Not only do you have to make sure your flying skills are up to par, but you are also on the clock, as the soup will cool in five minutes. Sound familiar? Ocarina of Time also had a similar segment where you had to deliver an item within a time limit – it can be stressful. Completing all three jobs for the owner, however, unlocks more side quests and the harp minigame.
Wild Ride
The Lanayru region can be challenging for both old and new players alike, but a unique side quest is revealed upon completion of the Sandship. The Minecart Ride is not only an interesting one to check out, but challenging as well, especially for those using motion controls.

The gameplay of this particular minigame seems very reminiscent of Handcar Havoc in Mario Party. While the reward upon getting the fastest time is a Heart Piece, it can independently be a nice sequence break from the main story.
Link's Cleaning Service
Skyward Sword sure has its fair share of unique side quests and requests from the residents of Skyloft. This time around, Link is tasked with cleaning a dirty home using the Gust Bellows item, almost like a vacuum cleaner.
Interacting with Pipit's mother at night will prompt her to ask Link to clean her dusty house. The reward is 5 Gratitude Crystals and 20 Rupees, but you can repeat this quest every night to farm Rupees. It's the only side quest in the game that can be repeated over and over again. It also begs the question: how does the home get so dusty, even after being cleaned with an ancient relic the night before?
The Return Of The Mysterious Hand In The Toilet
The hand in the toilet makes a return in Skyward Sword, having first appeared in Majoras Mask in the Stock Pot Inn. This time, however, there is a twist.
In Skyward Sword, you have a side storyline to complete and a mystery to investigate. Link can hear of these ghostly rumors in the night by speaking to individuals located in both the Bazaar and the Knight Academy. It can also lead to a romance between unlikely characters, of all things.
A Kikwi Finds A New Home
Link's Instructor Owlan is conducting research and wants a new plant for his studies, but it has to be a unique kind of plant. Having been to the surface, and more specifically Faron Woods, Link meets back up with Kikwi and it turns out one of them is looking to re-locate.

Oolo is sick of being chased by monsters and decides to go with Link back to Skyloft, satisfying both Owlan and Oolo. The result is unfortunately only 5 Gratitude Crystals for helping both of them. While the reward is not the best, it does add more context to the storyline, and the knowledge that you are helping keep at least one member of the Kikwi tribe safe from harm.
Soothing A Cranky Baby
In Skyward Sword, Link seems to fill a lot of roles, on top of trying to save the world from certain doom. In this particular side quest, you can add "baby whisperer" to his job title. The potion shop owner's husband, Bertie, is having trouble putting their child to sleep all because of a missing rattle. It's up to Link to locate the missing item, so both Bertie and the child can get some rest.
Again, you can only trigger this quest at night, before going on quite the journey to find the item in question. Turns out you need to use both the Clawshot and the Gust Bellows in order to complete the quest. A pesky bird seems to have stolen the rattle and has hidden it way up high in its nest. Perhaps Bertie will learn to keep the very important rattle in a safer location – or at least keep the windows closed.
Another Missing Skyloft Resident
People on Skyloft seem to go missing a lot in this game: first a little girl, and now a man's sister. It's worth completing this particular quest, however, as you score a whopping 10 Gratitude Crystals in one go.
When you arrive at the Light Tower at the Plaza in Skyloft, a man named Parrow is looking for his missing sister, who has vanished somewhere near Fun Fun Island. Upon searching the skies on your trusty Loftwing, you can find her tending to her injured Loftwing. Of course, it's up to Link to play vet. Simply return to Parrow to grab some Mushroom Spores, bring them back to his sister, and her Loftwing will be healed. They both give you five Gratitude Crystals each after completing the task
Boss Rush
An extra-special addition to Skyward Sword is a Boss Rush option. This activity is given by The Thunder Dragon, who resides in Lanayru Gorge.

Once Link revives The Thunder Dragon, he offers you the option to re-fight any of the previous bosses you have already defeated. It's ideal for players who wish to revisit these encounters with past foes and even offers an extra challenge to those who may also want to sharpen their combat skills.
Missing Child Leads To A Dark Secret On Skyloft
This is one of the earliest sidequests you can start in the game, as well as one of the most important ones. Upon returning to Skyloft from Faron Woods the first time, one of your neighbors, Wyrna, is in distress. Her daughter has gone missing and she can't seem to find her. Link plays detective and learns from other Skyloft residents that the child seemed to hang around the Graveyard a lot, and hears rumors of a monster living beneath Skyloft.
The way to enter the monster's lair is to hit a specific gravestone near a tree to open a secret path. This leads you to the home of Batreaux, who is hanging out with the missing child. At first, he will seem ferocious, but he really just wants to be human. The only way to do so is for Link to collect a bunch of Gratitude Crystals from doing good deeds. It can be time-consuming, but the rewards are worth it, as you can receive wallet upgrades and heart pieces.
Gambling On Fun Fun Island
A Zelda game wouldn't be complete without a form of gambling and a way to rake in the precious Rupees; Enter Fun Fun Island. To unlock this you need to retrieve the missing Fun Wheel item located in Lanayru Desert.
Return the colorful character's missing Fun Wheel and not only will you get another five Gratitude Crystals, but you also unlock the skydiving minigame. Utilizing the new motion controls with Joy-Con or button controls makes this game a breeze. Simply land on a specific colored area to double, or even triple, your bet.
