The first-person shooter genre remains one of the most popular genres in all of gaming, with annual Call of Duty releases consistently standing as the top-selling games of the year. Considering how much money first-person shooter games make, it's no surprise that game developers and publishers are constantly releasing new FPS games, though the last three months of 2021 seem particularly busy.
The last quarter of 2021 will see the release of brand new FPS IP, as well as new entries in some of the biggest first-person shooter franchises ever. From October to November, FPS fans can look forward to new releases in the Battlefield, Call of Duty, and Halo franchises, with a lot more to look forward to as well.

Here are all the big FPS games releasing in October, November, and December 2021.
New FPS Games October 2021
- Exophobia (October 5)
- Far Cry 6 (October 7)
- Back 4 Blood (October 12)
- Battlefield 2042 (October 22)
October 2021 is easily the biggest month of the year for first-person shooter fans, as four new games in the genre are set to launch, including three big budget triple-A titles. Before those higher profile games hit the scene, though, FPS fans can check out a retro-inspired throwback shooter called Exophobia, which has visuals reminiscent of classic Doom games. Exophobia seems like it will definitely be appealing to old-school FPS fans, and so they'll want to keep it on their radar. The game will be available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X when it launches on October 5, so FPS fans should be able to check it out regardless of their platform of choice.
Then on October 7, an open world FPS is set to launch in the form of Far Cry 6. The latest entry in the long-running Far Cry franchise, Far Cry 6 is looking to take serious steps forward in terms of narrative and storytelling. Far Cry 6's main villain, Anton Castillo, is played by the award-winning actor Giancarlo Esposito, who finds himself in conflict with Dani Rojas, promised to be one of the more fleshed-out and developed characters that the Far Cry series has seen so far. This bigger focus on story won't come at the expense of the Far Cry franchise's signature over-the-top action, so fans have a lot to look forward to when it launches for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Google Stadia.
Not even a week after Far Cry 6 launches, FPS fans can jump into the blood-soaked world of Back 4 Blood. A spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead, Back 4 Blood has players mowing down endless hordes of zombies and special infected in co-op with friends. Back 4 Blood also has plenty of PvP options for fans to check out as well, though it remains to be seen if the game will live up to the high bar set by the Left 4 Dead games. Back 4 Blood will be available for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, and it will even be a day one Xbox Game Pass game, so fans can check it out with minimal risk.
And finally, the FPS onslaught in October 2021 will come to an end with Battlefield 2042. Battlefield 2042 will provide a significantly different experience depending on if players are playing the PS4 and Xbox One version of the game or the next-gen version, which will offer double the player count and a variety of other enhancements. Battlefield 2042 is multiplayer-only, but it's going all-out to ensure that it's still very much a content-rich experience.
New FPS Games November 2021
- Call of Duty: Vanguard (November 5)
A new Call of Duty game releases every year, and 2021 is no exception to that rule. Sledgehammer Games is releasing Call of Duty: Vanguard on November 5, and it will provide Call of Duty fans with a familiar experience. There is a single player campaign starring four different characters as they try to stop Hitler's successor, along with the franchise's standard multiplayer experience. Not only that, but Treyarch is making Call of Duty: Vanguard's Zombies mode, so Zombies fans should have a lot to look forward to as well.
So far, Activision has focused its Call of Duty: Vanguard reveals on the single-player campaign and multiplayer. It recently shared a Call of Duty: Vanguard campaign level featuring the German invasion of Stalingrad, plus the Alpha is available to play on PlayStation consoles this weekend. With just a couple months to go until Call of Duty: Vanguard's release, fans can expect plenty more information on the ambitious FPS to come to light.
Call of Duty: Vanguard will be available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X on November 5.
New FPS Games December 2021
- Halo Infinite (December 8)
Before the rise of Call of Duty, Halo was the premiere first-person shooter franchise on consoles. Halo Infinite is looking to bring Xbox's flagship franchise back in a big way, offering a free-to-play live service multiplayer experience, a campaign, and much more. Unfortunately, some of the game's features won't be ready for launch, including co-op for the campaign and Forge mode, but that content will be added throughout its lifespan as part of future updates.
Halo Infinite will launch for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X on December 8. It's also worth pointing out that, like Back 4 Blood, Halo Infinite will be a day one Xbox Game Pass game when it launches later this year.
