The Last Of Us HBO Series To Have “Jaw Drop” Moment Cut From Game

In many ways, Sony and Naughty Dogs original The Last of Us was a foreshadowing of what was to come. No single game has quite had the influence that it had on Sony’s first party output with its focus on high production values and more cinematic, movie-like presentation. That’s why it made sense on so many levels when it was announced the game was to be adapted to TV at HBO. It will be quite some time before we see the show (most major TV productions are still shut down due to COVID), but they are teasing us about what to expect.

In an interview with BBC’s Must Watch, the TV show Creator Craig Mazin, talked about the upcoming show. While he stayed away from specifics, he did reference hearing an idea from the game’s original Creator Neil Druckmann that was cut from that original game, and that he had to incorporate it into the show. He implies that it’s something shocking.

“Jaw drop – that’s going in,” Mazin said about the idea. “For sure, we have to do that. You couldn’t stop me doing that. You will have to shoot me [to stop me] from doing that. And there were a few things like that.”

Both The Last of Us titles are filled with shocking moments, so it’s no surprise that either game had several of them cut, but it’ll be interesting to see what enamored Mazin so much. You can play both The Last of Us games on PlayStation 4 in the meantime, with the second game soon to get a major update with new modes and settings that you can read about here.
