The Saints Row Reboot Won’t Have Johnny Gat

Johnny Gat's voice actor, Daniel Dae Kim, has confirmed that he hasn't been asked to return for the Saints Row reboot.

Following the game's debut trailer at Gamescom Opening Night Live, Daniel Dae Kim was asked on Twitter by a fan if he was returning to voice Johnny Gat in the game. The answer's no, as you might expect from a reboot.

Kim said, "Sorry, no. I wasn’t asked, but reboots happen all the time. Absolutely loved voicing Johnny Gat though and hope this isn’t the last we’ve heard from him! Good luck to the new Saints Row."

Kim's comments here make it clear that Johnny Gat won't be making an appearance in the new Saints Row game. This shouldn't be too surprising considering the game is a complete reboot of the Saints Row universe, but some fans were hoping that characters could make some sort of crossover.

Even though the new Saints Row game is a reboot of the originals, some fans figured that Gat's popularity, combined with the fact that he's also dimension-hopped into games like Agents of Mayhem, might mean that he's up for a cameo appearance.

One other possibility that we hope isn't the case is the potential for someone other than Daniel Dae Kim to voice Johnny Gat. Kim specifically denied that he's been asked to voice the character, but it's possible that we'll see someone else take the mantle. That seems like a bizarre move to take when Kim is so iconic as Gat, so for now, it's probably best to assume all of the characters will be new.

Another fan theory is that the Saints Row reboot is less of a reboot and more of an origin story for the gang. The story description says that the game is the origin story of the Saints, so some think that it might take place long before anything in Stilwater or Steelport. It's likely not, and is really just a true reboot, but the theories are there.
