It has been a week since The Suicide Squad premiered in theaters and on HBO Max, and fans are still raving about director James Gunn’s latest foray into the world of superheroes (or antiheroes in this case). The film has a rather large roster of villains either going on a mission to supposedly save the world or simply lurking in the background, with short-lived cameos. The latter includes Calendar Man and Gunn has offered fans a new look at the character who makes a cameo in The Suicide Squad.
On his Twitter account, Gunn shared behind-the-scenes images of Sean Gunn’s Calendar Man and David Dastmalchian’s Polka-Dot Man, which are reminiscent of their interaction in the film. While he isn’t hired to be a part of the Task Force X in The Suicide Squad, his cameo had fans talking about the villain who appears in DC Comics and even goes up against Batman on several occasions.

In one of the scenes at Belle Reve, Calendar Man is seen bullying Polka-Dot Man, and even goes on to call him someone fit to “entertain at [his] kid’s birthday party.” This happens when Polka-Dot Man is being introduced to Bloodsport and Peacemaker as one of the members of Task Force X. Of course Peacemaker also finds it absurd that the villain’s power is to “throw polka dots at people.” The set photos shared by Gunn show Dastmalchian in the same gloomy mood as Polka-Dot Man in the respective scene, whereas Sean Gunn seems to be having a great time at his expense.
In the comics, Calendar Man commits crimes on specific holidays and significant dates throughout the year, and even wears costumes to relate to the date of his crime. But, he is considered to be one of the lesser evils or threats in Gotham City, as his crimes are often comical. He even leaves behind several clues after committing a crime, making it very easy for the authorities to track him down.
In The Suicide Squad, the villain is seen stuck in prison, presumably arrested for one of his absurd crimes. What stands out is the tattoo that runs across his head, which is similar to his comic book counterpart. The film marks the character’s first live-action appearance, and fans want to see more of him in the DCEU moving forward. The character has previously appeared in the animated Batman: Long Halloween movies, and was voiced by Dastmalchian.
The Suicide Squad is playing in theaters and streaming on HBO Max.
