The Witcher Season 2 Premiers in December 2021

I Feel Like I Could Burn the Whole World

We have been waiting quite a while for a second season of Netflix’s The Witcher series, but we finally have a premier date and a trailer. The entire first season was released on December 20th, 2019, and after the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the filming of the follow-up season, it will be returning on December 17th, 2021.

WitcherCon has wrapped up and now we can lay out the highlights, you know, except for any news of a new Witcher game. A surprising announcement was The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s PS5/Xbox Series X|S upgrade would be including Netflix tie-in content.

The Witcher Season 2

Speaking of the Wild Hunt, set photos from the Netflix series showed what we believe to be the Wild Hunt. This has some pretty important implications for season 2, though they did not appear in the trailer that Netflix had released.

The trailer shows that Geralt is taking Ciri to Kaer Morhen, the home and stronghold of the Witchers, where she will be trained. Ciri hints at some inner conflict and fear of her own power, which fans of the series will understand is quite great.

The end of the trailer also shows the return of Yennefer. In the final episode of season one, she erupts in a ball of fire and seemingly disappears. No doubt her path will cross with Geralt and Ciri at some point.

Season 2 of The Witcher is not the only project in the pipeline at Netflix. They are also going to be premiering The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, an animated movie. The Witcher season 2 will be available on Netflix on December 17th.
