It’s been a busy week in Pokemon Unite as we get closer and closer to the mobile launch. The long-awaited addition of Blastoise was the week’s biggest news, but even that didn’t go without a few hiccups. On top of last week’s issues surrounding trolls, it looks like the developers will also have to contend with bug fixes before the game is opened up to thousands more players.
Here are all the big stories from Pokemon Unite this week.

Map Glitch Has Players Fighting In The Void
Bugs in Pokemon Unite are nothing new, but this has to be the most eye-catching one we’ve seen. In a clip shared by a player on Reddit, the map can turn into a black void, making the game unplayable. This bug only seemed to affect the one player, as the rest were moving around the map as usual. Unfortunately for anyone who experiences this bug, you can’t score any goals – but you can kill enemies. The glitch will also apparently make you invisible, as the other team was not reacting to the player’s attacks.
The First Pokemon Unite Tournament Has A Date
Well that didn’t take long. A Pokemon Unite tournament is already planned to take place in Japan, kicking off September 19. A total of 256 teams can participate, with the event consisting of standard battles on Remoat Island. If this proves successful, it’s likely that similar tournaments could pop up elsewhere. Better start getting your Blastoise tournament-ready.
Free Loot To Celebrate The Upcoming Mobile Launch
To celebrate the mobile version of the game already reaching over five million pre-registrations, it’s been announced that players can grab free rewards of Aeos Tickets and Pikachu holowear. Anyone who wants to claim this loot has to register for the mobile version before launch, or download it post-launch before October 31. There will be cross progression across both versions of Pokemon Unite, so the rewards will not be limited to one device.
Fans Want More Gen 2 Representation
Developer Timi seems to have something against gen two Pokemon, and it hasn’t escaped the notice of the fans. Many are calling for more Johto ‘mons to join the roster, especially the starters now that the Kanto gang has been reunited. Another popular request is Heracross, since it would add to the bug type representation.
Blastoise Finally Joins The Gang
At long last, Blastoise was added to the game this week! The water type defender costs 8,000 Aeos coins or 460 Aeos gems. To the delight of fans, you can also purchase some holowear for Blastoise…which gives it the fashion sense of a dad who hasn’t bought a new outfit since the ‘70s. Stat wise, Blastoise starts with 3,225 HP, 100 defence, 70 special defence, and 150 attack. But that’s not even its best feature…
…And Has A Spammable Unite Move
Not long after going live, players discovered that Blastoise has a hell of an exploit that’s yet to be patched out of the game. For some reason, the water type’s Unite move doesn’t reset back down to 0 percent after use – only going down to 90 percent. This means that the move is often fully recharged before the effects have worn off, making it easy to spam. The only downside for Blastoise mains is that the spammed unite move doesn’t appear to do any damage, but does give you the shield boost. In a clip shown of the bug in action, Blastoise was essentially unkillable.
