This Week’s Indie Game Releases (August 1 – 7)

Summer is certainly still in full swing, but a brand new year looms on the horizon for many students who will be returning to school in a mere couple of weeks. However, with August as a whole being a bit slower in terms of major releases, this is the perfect time to dive into your backlog or – better yet – check out some new indie games that are worthy of your attention.

Here are our picks for this week in indie games, August 1 – 7.

Who Stole My Beard? – August 2 (PC)

In the mood for some pixelated sleuthing? Who Stole My Beard? – from developer Cleardot Games – may just be right up your alley. In Who Stole My Beard?, your beard has (unsurprisingly) been stolen, requiring you and your humanoid dog, Leo, to search the charming town of Beardsville in the hopes of unraveling the mystery behind who stole your beard from right under your nose (… get it?). Who Stole My Beard? is available now for PC via Steam.

Hunter's Arena: Legends – August 3 (PC, PS4, PS5)

Shown off most recently during last month’s PlayStation State of Play, Hunter's Arena: Legends is the latest title to throw its hat into the battle royale genre. Players will take on other players, as well as ancient demons, as they seek to be the last one standing in the arena… er, the hunter’s arena. Hunter's Arena: Legends will be released on August 3 for PS4 and PS5. The game is currently available on PC via Steam Early Access.

Toodee and Topdee – August 4 (PC)

Toodee and Topdee – from developer dietzribi – is a quirky-looking title that combines 2D platforming with top-down puzzle mechanics, allowing you to change perspectives as you solve puzzles, overcome challenges, and work to defeat tough bosses. A local co-op mode is also available with each player taking on the role of either Toodee or Topdee. Toodee and Topdee will be available on August 4 for PC via Steam.

Lifeslide – August 6 (PC)

If you only manage to play one new indie game this week, make it Lifeslide. The whimsical paper airplane simulator is a fantastic way to unwind at the end of a hectic day as you soar through fantastic environments to the tune of a soundtrack that fits the tone of each setting nearly perfectly. Having played an early build of the game earlier this year, I really can’t recommend the full release of Lifeslide enough. Lifeslide will be available on August 6 for PC via Steam.

A few other indie games to check out includes a handful of titles that are in Early Access, or have already been released and are making their debut on other platforms:

  • Creatures of Aether (Port) – Available now for PC via Steam (free-to-play)
  • Starmancer (Early Access) – Available on August 5 for PC via Steam Early Access
  • Death Trash (Early Access) – Available on August 5 for PC via Steam Early Access
  • A Monster’s Expedition (Port) – Available on August 5 for Nintendo Switch
  • The Last Survey (Port) – Available on August 6 for Nintendo Switch
