Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Glitch Makes the Game Look Like MadWorld

When playing Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, or any other entry in the series, gamers have grown to expect a realistic art style. However, a new visual glitch is making Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War look more like MadWorld than a military shooter.

While a comparison between the two games is certainly unexpected, it is fitting in this scenario. The 2009 PlatinumGames release featured a unique art style where everything in the game was colored in black and white. Only blood added some color to the world, with the red pools improving the comic book aesthetic. The hack and slash gameplay fit well with the unique art style, and many look back at the Wii title fondly. Still, it is an entirely different game from Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, making this new comparison a bit strange on first glance.

However, once players see the clip posted by Reddit user Space-Kook, they should notice the similarities instantly. For some reason, the player’s game has been stripped of color, with the entire world around them being white, black, and red. This extends to the Ice Drake Krig 6 they are carrying as well as the zombies they are fighting, as everything has been covered in the minimalistic color scheme. While the red is mixed in with the black and white by default, the similarities are clear.

Reddit user UnofficialMipha calls out the MadWorld similarity, while others make different comparisons. MrDonaught_Gaming, for example, references Apex Legends’ Bloodhound. With the mode being reminiscent of the Legend’s Beast of the Hunt ability, it is a fair reference to make. Ghost of Tsushima’s Ghost Stance also takes on a look like this one, meaning that there are a fair number of similar visuals in gaming. While the normal reaction to glitches is usually frustration, most seem to think this one is on the cool side.

With many feeling that this looks like a mod or a render mode as opposed to an actual bug, it seems like some players would be willing to use an official version of this glitch in their games. However, with Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Zombies being the only time where some proper render modes were able to be chosen from the main menu, this is unlikely. While an easter egg like Shadows of Evil’s Noire mode could technically be added as well, this is also doubtful.

When Treyarch patches this unique, MadWorld-like visual glitch, it will likely be the last time that it is seen in the game. As such, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War fans interested in replicating the bug may want to figure out how Space-Kook triggered it before an update arrives.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
