There's an ongoing crisis going on within the World of Warcraft community, stemming from a number of ongoing serious issues. Perhaps the least serious, and yet quite virally impactful, is the decision of Twitch streamer Asmongold to stop playing World of Warcraft and instead play Final Fantasy 14. Now Asmongold, as he is known to do, is stirring up the World of Warcraft community again. In a recent Twitch stream, Asmongold provided his opinion on World of Warcraft's community, going so far as calling it "trash."
In a clip being shared online, Asmongold addresses the topic of whether Final Fantasy 14's community is better than World of Warcraft's. It's one of those comparisons that online communities are currently having more of, given the controversies surrounding Blizzard and the increased popularity of Final Fantasy 14. Asmongold says that he agrees with the sentiment that Final Fantasy 14's community is better in terms of being supportive and so on.

But Asmongold goes well beyond just agreeing with the statement, though it's perhaps hyperbolic. He punctuates the point by saying, "That is completely true. There has never been a truer true that has ever been trued." Suffice to say, he isn't just agreeing that Final Fantasy 14's community is strong and World of Warcraft's community less so, but that there's a vast divide between the two games' communities that's worth calling attention to.
Asmongold doesn't stop in confirming that he believes Final Fantasy 14's community is better, however. He carries past that though, wanting to touch on why he believes Final Fantasy 14's community is so good, but rather why World of Warcraft's is bad. In a self-deprecating way, Asmongold says that he believes the World of Warcraft community is bad and that he knows this because he "was in it."
It's no secret that Asmongold has partaken in World of Warcraft's often toxic community. Being controversial at times is a part of what makes many Twitch streamers so popular. Part of it also comes from Asmongold playing World of Warcraft for so long, despite clearly not enjoying himself at times. But the clear catalyst for his current stance is playing Final Fantasy 14 and having such an enjoyable time.
It's not a great moment for World of Warcraft to be compared to any game, at the moment. Sentiment towards Blizzard as it struggles with allegations of gender discrimination is at an all-time low. Players are unhappy with the game's most recent patch. And Final Fantasy 14 is at a very good place in comparison. Still, Asmongold is likely only saying what many other World of Warcraft players are thinking.
World of Warcraft is available now on PC.
