Viral Breath of the Wild Clip Shows Super Unlucky Link

Sometimes, despite a player's best intentions, things don't go according to plan. Even though developers often test the games they design extensively to find unexpected issues, players often manage to find unusual occurrences that the game designers overlooked. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one game in particular that has seen many Switch players discovering strange glitches. Recently, one unlucky player discovered another unexpected event in the game.

Breath of the Wild presents Hyrule as an open-world filled with breathtaking locations for players to explore, and they can do so in any order they choose after leaving the starting region known as the Great Plateau. They can even go straight to Hyrule Castle and fight Calamity Ganon, though this might not be the best idea. With such a non-linear gameplay structure, inevitably some unusual events are bound to happen. Even for those that plan ahead and take down the Divine Beasts to increase their power before going to Hyrule Castle, the game can be unpredictable.

One user on Reddit known as RetroGameDays36 found this out the hard way while on their way to fight Calamity Ganon. In a video clip posted by the gamer, Link is seen scaling a wall in the area around Hyrule Castle. Once he manages to reach the top, one of the numerous Guardians protecting the area focuses on the hero.

Attempting to avoid its lasers, Link runs towards another section of the wall and begins to climb higher. Unfortunately, another blast from the Guardian clips the character, sending him flying off the side of the wall and down the mountainside. Luckily, he manages to deploy his glider and stops his freefall. Just when everything looks safe, a large object unexpectedly drops from above and hits Link, causing significant damage.

Apparently, the descending object was a deactivated Guardian that became dislodged further up the hill. While Guardians pose a challenge around Hyrule Castle, this attack was unusual to say the least. It seems that the falling Guardian is a scripted event that is supposed to activate as Link approaches the area. It is supposed to hit the ground in front of the character instead of impacting him. However, the developers didn't anticipate the hero to fly across the area, which causes the object to collide with him.

This unfortunate mishap from RetroGameDays36 has become very popular with the Breath of the Wild community on Reddit. With over 5,600 upvotes, gamers took to the comments to express their surprise. One user quipped that Link's luck was so bad that "even the dead Guardians want to kill him." Apparently, this has even happened to another fan, as the falling Guardian struck them while on a motorcycle.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available now for Nintendo Switch and Wii U.
