Where To Get Layered Armor In Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin

Quick Links

One of the best things about Monster Hunter games is that your character's look will be changing all the time as you defeat more monsters and get access to better gear. Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is no different, and every time you encounter a new type of monster that drops materials, you can use those to create a different set of unique armor.

However, as always, the gear with the best stats available at the time is not necessarily the one that looks the best, and you might find yourself missing the style of some of your old armor. Fortunately, the game includes Layered Armor — here's everything you need to know about it.

What is Layered Armor?

Layered Armor is a way of essentially glamouring your character's appearance. Your character will look as though they are wearing the armor of the equipped Layered Armor regardless of which armor set they are actually wearing. This allows you to keep your character in the most up-to-date gear with decent stats while still keeping the appearance of your favorite armor set.

Where Can I Get Layered Armor

Melynx Inc.

The Melynx Inc. merchant NPC sells exclusive items in exchange for Bottle Caps, a special kind of currency that you can find in chests in Everdens or earn as rewards from quests. This NPC unlocks fairly early on in the storyline, after which they will appear in every village/city hub in the game.

You can purchase the Mahanna Outfit Layered Armor for 5 Bottle Caps, and there are also some protagonist hairstyles, as well as outfits for Ena and Navirou available at Melynx Inc.

Lulucion Smithy

Once you reach Lulucion, which is in the fourth region you visit in the game, you will find that, unlike the other villages, this city has two different smithys. That's because one is your normal smithy for forging, upgrading, and purchasing weapons, and the other is a special smithy for Layered Armor only.

There is one caveat to the Layered Armor on sale here, you must have already forged the real deal in order to be able to purchase the Layered Armor version. So you can't try and impress your friends by looking like you're wearing the best armor in the game when you haven't actually earned it. Each Layered Armor set will cost you 700z, which isn't a bad price to keep your rider looking their best.

Monster Hunter Rise Save Data

If you have Monster Hunter Rise save data on your Nintendo Switch console, you'll be able to receive the Kamura Garb Layered Armor. Additionally, your Monster Hunter Stories 2 save file will earn you the Rider Armor Layered Armor in Monster Hunter Rise.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin Deluxe Edition DLC or Paid DLC

The Deluxe Edition of the game includes additional DLC, such as a new Kuan coat outfit for Ena, Nergigante and Pukei-Pukei outfits for Navirou, a Spiky Nergal hairstyle for the protagonist, and the Razewing Alpha and Beta Layered Armor. This Layered Armor set is also available as a separate DLC that you can purchase.

Monster Hunter Stories Amiibo

If you use any of the three Monster Hunter Stories 2 amiibo at the Prayer Pot, you can obtain exclusive layered armor from each one. Here's what each amiibo gets you:

  • Ena Amiibo: Ena and Kyle Layered Armor
  • Razewing Ratha Amiibo: Red Layered Armor
  • Tsukino Amiibo: Tsukino Layered Armor

Additionally, the original amiibo that launched alongside the first game are also compatible and will reward you with a set of Layered Armor based on the outfit from the first Stories title.

How Can I Equip Layered Armor?

You can equip, change, or remove your Layered Armor from the chest within your house. There is a house in each of the villages/cities within the game. Once you have selected the chest, choose the "Appearance" option, then move down to the Layered Armor option to change which armor is visible on your character. You can also change the color of your armor and your character's face and hair from the Appearance menu.
