Xbox Is Getting A Night Mode That Dims The Console, Controller, And Screen

Have you ever wondered why it takes you hours to get to sleep after a night of gaming? Well, it’s probably because of the light produced by screens. Blue light tricks the brain into thinking it’s actually the middle of the day instead of the middle of the night, delaying the onset of sleep and keeping you wide awake far later than you probably should be.

There are two solutions to this problem, and since nobody is going to stop gaming until 2 AM, the better solution is to enable night mode. Your phone probably already has a night mode that dims the light and reduces blue light emissions (making your display various shades of yellow), and pretty soon, your Xbox will have the exact same thing.

As reported by The Verge, Xbox Insiders have the option to try out Xbox's new Night Mode features. These features include the ability to dim your screen, reduce LED brightness on your controller or power button, and enable a blue light filter.

Just like with Windows' Night Light feature, you ca customize Xbox's Night Mode to be as dim as you'd like. The blue light filter also has a sliding scale to take out as much blue light as you'll allow before everything turns into a shade of yellow. The more you get rid of, the better your ability to fall asleep on time, but also the worse your games will look.

Xbox also has a Dark Mode that changes the menus to choose darker colors, similar to the button on this very website. You can even disable HDR in the Night Mode options to prevent some of those bright colors from tricking your eyes into keeping you up at night.

Finally, the whole thing can be set to an automatic schedule to follow sunrise and sunset, or you can set manual times to enable Night Mode if you prefer to game in full color a few hours after the sun sets.

Expect Xbox Night Mode to have its full rollout to Xbox consoles in the coming weeks.
