Xbox Reveals Gorgeous Limited Edition See-Through Forza Horizon 5 Series X Controller

Back in the day, there were all kinds of see-through gadgets and gaming hardware, with some of the most famous examples being the see-through Nintendo 64 controller and the see-through Game Boy Color. Recent years have seen gaming companies stick mostly to solid colors and generally limiting the number of designs they release for their controllers and hardware, though Microsoft has been releasing all kinds of unique-looking Xbox Series X controllers. The latest Xbox Series X controller design is one of the most impressive yet, and is a throwback to the old see-through tech that was more common decades ago.

At its Gamescom 2021 showcase, Microsoft revealed a special limited edition Forza Horizon 5 Xbox Series X controller. The controller is transparent yellow, letting players see the inner workings of the controller, and the front is splashed with pink and blue, mimicking the powder fireworks that are seen in-game at the Horizon Festival. This color scheme is seen throughout the controller, with specialized grips that are meant to feel like performance car steering wheels.

Besides the controller simply looking cool, there is another reason why Forza Horizon 5 fans may want to consider picking it up. This limited edition controller comes with some exclusive DLC, including a car, a "cosmetic item," and a victory emote. Details on that DLC have yet to be revealed, but it will come as an added bonus with the Forza Horizon 5 limited edition controller when it releases November 9 for $74.99.

Pre-orders for the Forza Horizon 5 Limited Edition Xbox Series X controller are open now, so anyone interested may want to consider putting their order in now. It's quite possible that the controller will sell out, as it is a limited edition, after all. In the meantime, it will be interesting to see if this is a sign of things to come for Xbox-published games – maybe they will be getting their own limited edition controllers, too.

One obvious candidate that comes to mind is Halo Infinite. The Halo Infinite release date is still expected to be sometime this fall, though a specific date still has yet to be nailed down at the time of this writing. It's easy to see how a Halo Infinite controller could generate significant excitement, especially if it has as much care put into it as with this Forza Horizon 5 controller.

In the meantime, those who want to make their Xbox Series X controllers can do so using the Xbox Design Lab, though they can't get quite as creative as the Forza Horizon 5 Xbox Series X controller.

Forza Horizon 5 launches November 9 for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
