Xenoblade Chronicles Actor Suggests That A Third Game Is In The Works

It appears as if not all is dead with the Xenoblade Chronicles series. During a video call with a fan a few months back, actor Jenna Coleman suggested that Nintendo is working on a third installment of Monolift Soft's well regarded RPG series. More known for her work on Doctor Who, Coleman portrayed Princess Melia Antiqua in the English dub for the first game. She would reprise the role in the bonus content included with the Switch Definitive Edition port in 2020.

Speaking on how she acquired the role, Coleman revealed her agent booked her the gig. "It was a long time ago. I did it pre-Doctor Who days and then when they did the second one, they asked me to come back," she said. "And I think they’re going to do another. Common knowledge? Don't know… Yeah I think they're going to do another… Not sure if I’m allowed to say that."

This is hardly conclusive proof that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is happening, but the ending of Definitive Edition's "The Future Connected" campaign suggests that something more is coming. It also does a good job of connecting the first game with Xenoblade Chronicles 2, suggesting that a third title could be either a team-up or another set of heroes that join forces for a fourth installment.

Whether or not this is true, Monolith Soft has been growing in the years since Xenoblade Chronicles 2 released. With the game becoming the most successful title from the studio, Nintendo started pushing for growth and even allowed the company to help out with the Legend of Zelda series. At the moment, it is suspected that Monolith Soft is aiding with development of Breath of the Wild 2.

I don't see why a Xenoblade Chronicles 3 wouldn't happen, but we'll have to take this with a grain of salt. Actors often time hear things well in advance of when plans become finalized, so there's a chance Coleman caught wind of something that is since been shelved. If not, 2022 might hold a few surprises for Nintendo fans that are looking for brand new titles.
