Normal Teen Antics
The Arcade Crew has announced that Young Souls will be coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC in the Fall of this year. This is after it was released today for Google Stadia. Well, I guess Stadia gets an exclusive for a few months.
I don’t know how good the game will be, but it sure looks great. I adore the unique art style on show here. It looks absolutely beautiful.
The story of Young Souls follows the orphaned twins Jenn and Tristan, who discover a portal in their guardian’s estate. The twins decide the only thing they can do is dive in and find their guardian. To do this, they explore the town, buy clothes, train at the gym, and fight to the death to clear dangerous dungeons—just your normal teen antics.
Gameplay-wise, Young Souls is a beat ’em up with RPG elements. You are going to want to train at the gym and get better gear to give yourself an advantage in combat. The game will focus primarily on boss fights, and there seems to be plenty of them. Jérôme Fait, co-founder of 1P2P Studio, had this to say:
“With Young Souls, our goal from day one was to make boss fights the core of the game experience. We worked hard on these fights to make them as thrilling and rewarding as possible.”
It also has a unique mechanic evolving around boss fights. Every time you defeat a boss, that boss will lose a “life,” and the boss will evolve. The boss will gain new behavior during combat to ensure a run doesn’t become stale. You might not be able to use the same tactic to get through a boss fight that you used the first time.
