There are a lot of secondary gadgets to choose from for your operators, so it's important to know everything about each one and how to properly use them. Here are the best secondary gadgets in Rainbow Six: Siege and how they each function.
Barbed Wire
Barbed Wire isn't a particularly impressive gadget on its own, and there are many better options to use if you want the best secondary gadget possible. However, this gadget compliments many abilities, which is what makes it so useful.
For example, you can place Barbed Wire over the defender Frost's Welcome Mats to hide them, and although it doesn't cover them completely, it's a great way to distract enemies from the trap underneath it. Barbed Wire is also useful near doorways and windows, but only if it's placed in the correct spot.
Smoke Grenade
One gadget that will always be useful is the Smoke Grenade. Unlike Frag Grenades, Smoke Grenades don't deal any damage but instead cause smoke to cover a room, making it difficult to see objects and other players. Smoke Grenades pair well with operators that use trap abilities, and the best locations to place them down are in small rooms as opposed to large open-areas.

If you time a Smoke Grenade at the perfect time, then you can enter the room by crouching and defeat an enemy from the shadows. Frag Grenades can also be paired with Smoke Grenades for a deadly combination since the enemy won't see where the Frag Grenade lands, and therefore can't escape it's blast.
Breach Charges
If you choose to equip Breach Charges, then you're probably a player that thinks ahead of possible situations. You may need this explosive gadget during a match to destroy a wall that's blocking a window, door, or room.
With so many methods for reinforcing the map, there are many situations where Breach Charges can save you or allow you to defeat an enemy by creating a new opening in a wall. Breach Charges aren't the best gadget for dealing lots of damage, but they are useful in the correct situation.
Bullet-Proof Camera
Although Defenders don't have access to the usual drone gadget, they can equip Bullet-Proof Cameras to spy on enemies as they explore rooms. A gun can shoot these cameras, and they won't immediately break, which is a feature uncommon among the cameras in Rainbow Six: Siege.

Claymore
The Claymore gadget is great for tricking enemies since you can place it in many hard-to-see places throughout the map. A few of the best locations to place down a Claymore are inside vents and at the top or bottom of a stairway.
When an enemy walks into a Claymore, an explosion occurs and deals massive damage towards the enemy. They also work as a distraction if there are multiple enemies in the area since a Claymore explosion will be a surprise, and you can then rush the enemy team.
Deployable Shield
Deployable Shields are a situational gadget, and they're only useful in certain rooms, including the objective room. You can hide behind a Deployable Shield to take cover from enemy fire, but you can also place other gadgets and traps behind it so that when an enemy hops over the shield, they'll get stuck in a trap that they weren't expecting.

If you need extra cover while sitting in the objective room, then a Deployable Shield is the perfect option; however, it's not very useful if you're roaming around the map.
Reinforcement Walls
There are a few different ways to enhance your team's defenses while playing as a Defender, including by using Deployable Shields, traps, Barbed Wire, and most importantly, Reinforcement Walls. These can be placed over a wall that can be destroyed, so you can fortify the objective room from Attacker's weaponry.
Even if you don't stay in the objective room personally, it's still important to use Reinforcement Walls at the beginning of a match to fortify your team's defenses. Since Reinforcement Walls are one of the most crucial items for winning a match as a Defender, this gadget is considered one of the best secondary gadgets in Rainbow Six: Siege.
Drones
Drones are a core component for every Attacker operator. You can use this gadget to infiltrate the enemy team and find the objective room before the combat match starts. Some operators, such as Twitch, even have unique types of drones.
You can use drones to scan enemies to mark them on your map and spy on other players while they're setting up gadgets. Overall, drones are one of the best gadgets, and the fact that each Attacker has access to multiple during each match makes them even better. Frag Grenade
