Zelda & Loftwing Amiibo Coming In July

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD is due to launch on July 17. Alongside the game, it has also been revealed that a special set of Joy-Con will be landing on the same day. Now, Nintendo has announced that a special Zelda & Loftwingo amiibo will also be for sale along with Skyward Sword HD.

So, what does this special amiibo bring to the table? Here’s the breakdown from the official Nintendo website:

In The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, the adventure takes place between the skies where Link and his friends reside, and the vast world of the surface that lies beneath the clouds.

Normally, you can only return from the surface to the sky by way of designated save points, but using the Zelda & Loftwing amiibo while on the surface in the game will allow you to return to the skies from anywhere on the surface, even inside dungeons.

Interestingly, this amiibo is going to run fans $24.99, which is higher than normal. Although amiibo prices has been rising over the past year, and Zelda & Loftwing seems to be slightly larger than a standard amiibo, that’s quite an asking price. Further… complicating matters is the fact that the functionality this figurine provides is being restricted to the amiibo itself. Meaning there will, at this point, be no other way to improve fast travel in Skyward Sword HD without purchasing the amiibo. Needless to say, this has caused some irritation among Zelda fans, but Nintendo has yet to make any sort of announcement or comment about their ire.
