While you face horrible enemies as they try to destroy your village and the Seed of Yggradisil, you'll find yourself using certain sets of armor based on your playstyle, the class you play, and what elements are your strengths and weaknesses. If you choose well, the right set can provide amazing defense and will certainly stop you from dying.

Feral Set

The feral set looks pretty great and feels ideal for a hunter. It sports a bear mane and some cool-looking armor that really feels like you're, well, feral. Ultimately, the Feral set is a useful set of armor that is an ideal starter when you start coming up against some tough enemies.

As for its stats, the set has got an overall defense of 41 without the shield and a 74 with the shield. The Feral set thrives in protecting you from cold damage but has good overall protection from all the elements. Whether you're a hunter or not, this is a pretty handy set in the early game. Crafting the full set from Borghid the Tailor will require 20 Yarn, 12 Wood, 22 Silver, and 16 Boar Bristle.

Nornir Set

While not considerably more powerful than the Feral set, the Nornir set is ideal for those who prefer being protected from thunder damage. It looks like it should be ideal for cold damage from its style, but certainly isn't the primary use. Nevertheless, it can provide you with an overall defense of 44 or 75 if you use the shield.

It isn't much better than the Feral set if you're using a shield, so it depends on your playstyle and the elements your character fights with as to what armor you choose. The Nornir set is pretty good with ice and thunder but is pretty useless when it comes to dark and fire damage. To make the full set, head to Borghid the Tailor with 24 Yarn, 11 Wood, 25 Evening Rowan Drops, and 15 Linnorm Spikes.

Seidr's Set

It probably comes as no surprise when looking at Seidr's set that it thrives at protecting you from dark damage. This set looks as awesome as it is and can really save your hide in tough situations. It's one of the best rare sets of armor and will undeniably change your game.

Seidr's set will give you a defense of 48 if you wear the entire set, if you choose to equip the shield with it then it'll bring that rating up to 78 – one that rivals even the epic sets when they're worn without a shield. It goes without saying that this set is tightly effective against dark damage, but it can also really help with ice damage. However, it's really weak to thunder and fire damage. You'll need 29 Yarn, 10 Wood, 29 Midnight Yew Essence, and 19 Helthing Rings to create the full set. Just head to Borghid the Tailor to craft.

Gullveig's Set

Gullveig's set looks and feels a little more brutish, which is perfect for the Berserker or Warrior. That being said, it would make a great set of armor for anyone who feels like they're getting killed by fire way too often. Wearing a full set of this armor will grant you a defense of 60 or 94 if you choose to equip the shield.

While it does have amazing protection against fire, the other stats are a little disappointing for its rarity and rating. It's useless when it comes to ice and dark damage and is really subpar with its protection against lightning damage. This set is amazing but only in certain circumstances. To craft this set, head to Borghid the Tailor with 34 Oiled Leather, 9 Wooden Board, 31 Obsidian, 22 Brennálfar Amber, and 17 Garnets.

Utgard's Set

Thanks to the fact that this is an epic set of armor, you already know it's going to be pretty powerful, but that isn't the only reason it's a great set. Utgard's set just looks so regal and beautiful that it's really hard to not feel unstoppable when you're wearing the entire set. The looks aside, Utgard's set lives up to its epic status and provides you with a defense of 57 without a shield and a huge jump to 83 with a shield.

It certainly feels as powerful as it looks after those stats. Ultimately, use Utgard's set if you want to be protected against ice and dark elements, but if you come across a lot of fire and thunder maybe stay away, since Utgard's set is pretty weak to those two. Head to Borghid the Tailor and bring a hefty 29 Oiled Leather, 12 Wooden Board, 29 Starlit Seaweed, 20 Unfrozen Talisman, and 15 Aquamarines if you want to craft this awesome set of armor.

Fornjót's Set

Moving onto the legendary armors, the Fornjot's set is more than a step up from Utgard's set. It looks amazing and will certainly show any of your teammates that you mean business. Obviously, it will be a little challenging to get hold of but if you like the look and power of Fornjot's set then it's worth the struggle.

When you have the entire set equipped it will grant you a defense of 81, or an incredible 123 if you equip that awesome-looking shield. With its incredible defense comes its useful elements. It should come as no surprise that this is an ice-based armor set, and it will protect you against ice, dark, and a little thunder. However, as science goes, it's weak against fire. Bring 32 Spun Yarn, 16 Wooden Board, 37 Sapphire, 6 Piece of Geirrödr's Jaw, and 6 Golden Horns to Borghid the Tailor if you want this set.

Baldr's Set

If you're looking for a more royal look then look no further than Baldr's set. It will give you the royal feel as well as the power – it's a win-win really. This legendary set is ideal for anyone wanting to stand out as well as promote their power to everyone watching. It certainly lives up to its legendary status. When you equip the entire set and include the shield it isn't really much better than Fornjot's set, with this one coming in at 124, so you'll need to prioritize the element they work well with rather than armor rating.

However, without the shield, the Baldr's Set brings a defense of 85 which is ideal. It thrives at protecting you from thunder damage as well as fire, but it's a little weak to ice and really bad against Dark. So play it smart with this one. Since it's legendary you'll need to bring Borghid the Tailor a hefty 47 Spun Yarn, 13 Wooden Board, 49 Gold, 6 Shard of Járnsaxa's Brooch, and 6 Golden Horns if you want to wear Baldr's set.

Fenrir's Set

When looking at the defense power and the overall resistance to the elemental damage, Fenrir's set is undeniably the most powerful in the game. It's pretty tough to get hold of but once you're wearing this incredible-looking armor set then you'll never look back. It doesn't have a particular element it protects you from, instead opting to protect you from all of them equally. Think of it like a jack-of-all-trades kind of set.

While that may not be appealing to some, the defense of 95 without a shield or the defense of 140 with a shield will make it pretty desirable. You'll need 52 Spun Yarn, 17 Wooden Board, 58 Vines, 48 Large Bones, and 6 Golden Horns to bring to Borghid the Tailor.
