It’s never too late to enjoy again what entertained us in the past. Or so Hyperkin must think, a company that allows you to play your retro consoles without worrying about cords.
Many video game players who are Millennials (and even some Gen Z gamers) nostalgically remember when console controllers were not wireless. Comments abounded from our parents like: “kid, don’t stand so close to the TV or you’ll lose your sight,” “be careful with the cables so you don’t drop the TV!” and many more similar comments that marked moments of our childhood playing consoles like SNES, PlayStation 1, and N64.
We will talk about the latter console since those endearing situations are left behind thanks to Hyperkin’s Admiral wireless N64 controller, a more ergonomic revision of the Nintendo 64 controller. In addition to not having to make us choose painfully between using the stick or the cross pad, because both are at the prudential distance that we can stretch our thumb without injuring it, this is a wireless controller that we can even connect to PC or Android via Bluetooth.
We can finally play the N64 comfortably
The Admiral controller works via Bluetooth, which can be connected to a compatible PC. It also connects to an original Nintendo 64 console thanks to the adapter that comes with the controller, which connects directly to the console thanks to an adapter that works as a transmitter.
Thanks to this you can play at a maximum distance of 9 meters from the console, but the signal may be obstructed by walls or large items that are between the side and the console. Another point to note about this is that the controller has a noticeable amount of input lag when connecting to PC, smartphones, and smart TVs. However, when using the transmitter to use the controller on the Nintendo 64, not much input lag is noticeable.
Plus, there’s no need to worry about batteries. Thanks to the built-in lithium battery, which can be recharged with a micro USB cable, it allows for up to 6 hours of continuous play. That’s enough time to get a few stars in Super Mario 64, get all the cups in Mario Kart 64, or play about 30% of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
Also, you can insert the N64 memory card without problems. Instead of being inserted into the N64 controller as it was originally done, you’ll insert the controller pak into the adapter that is inserted directly into the console’s controller port.
