The first FIA World Rally Championship game since EA bought Codemasters will be out this year, as the reveal trailer is released.

It’s now over two years since EA bought Codemasters, the last major independent games studio in the UK, but as unfortunate as that is things seem to have been going well for Codies since the purchase, with their F1 games proving very successful under EA.

The only non-F1 game they’ve released so far is GRID Legends, which would’ve been started long before EA bought them, but now they’ve announced EA Sports WRC, the first rally game under their new ownership.

Its announcement is not a surprise though and had been rumoured for some time, with EA today confirming that it’ll be out on November 3, with early access set to begin on October 31.

EA Sports WRC is current gen-only and will only be released for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. The game will use the existing DiRT Rally physics engine but in conjunction with Unreal Engine.

The game will include 18 officially licensed locations, amounting to over 600km of track, although the Central Europe Rally will only be available as a post-launch update.

There’ll be 10 WRC, WRC2, and Junior WRC vehicles from the current season, plus 68 other cars from across the 60 year history of the sport.

You’ll also be able to create your own custom car with the Builder feature, which allows you to pick a chassis, body shell, and parts to customise the interior and exterior however you want.

32-player cross-platform multiplayer is also promised, so it all sounds like pretty much exactly what rally fans would want.

Although it does seem to signify the unofficial end of the DiRT franchise, and the Colin McRae Rally games that preceded it, which is a shame.
