The PS5 is still as difficult as ever to get your hands on unless you want to pay scalpers outrageous prices on places like eBay. But while many are still impatiently waiting on more places to restock the PS5, it seems a new version of the console has come to Australia. The version of the PS5 that has just appeared in Australia has been confirmed to contain a new model number (CFI-1102A). According to Press Start, they believe this makes Australia the first country to receive this new model.

Apparently not much is yet known about this new model, since they haven’t found anything else mentioned about it online. However, they do know that it includes a new screw that is able to be adjusted by hand and does not require a screwdriver. In order to figure out exactly what all the differences are, the console will likely need to be taken apart and thoroughly examined by someone who knows their way around the hardware well. So far, the only assumption that’s been made is that this version of the PS5 is likely lighter than other versions.
In other PS5 news, it seems that SSD cards might be good for more than just expanding storage. While expanding storage space is the most common use for SSD cards, Eurogamer shared that an M.2 NVMe SSD could also slightly improve loading and transfer speeds. In their words, “The Samsung 980 Pro is fast enough to handle taxing PS5 exclusives like Ratchet and Clank and works just like PS5's stock drive in its delivery of high-bandwidth scenes. Plus, there's the loading time advantage.”
They found that the load times are three to four seconds faster, depending on the SSD or if using the heatsink version. This might not seem like a substantial amount of time, but you have to realize how quickly that adds up when you consider how often you’re spending the time waiting for games to load.
