Alan Wake 2 Will Keep Its 3rd Person Perspective
Alan Wake 2 was revealed at this year’s The Game Awards. Although it is a sequel, it is a step away from some core gameplay fundamentals. Unlike its predecessor, the second installment in the Alan Wake franchise is going to be a more traditional survival horror experience.
This change has led some fans to expect that the series may take a first-person perspective, just like other popular horror titles in the gaming industry today. Remedy boss Sam Lake, however, took to social media to put all these speculations to rest.
“Thank you for being as excited about Alan Wake 2 as we are,” Lake wrote. “A couple of easy clarifications before we go dark to continue the work—yes, this is a third person game.”
As confirmed by Sam Lake, himself, the game will be keeping its third person perspective. Other games from Remedy that also feature the same is Quantum Break and Control.
Alan Wake 2 will also see the return of two of the franchise’s original actors. Ilkka Villi and Matthew Poretta are both going to reprise their roles as the story’s protagonist. Villi will be the character’s model, while Poretta is going to be portraying the character’s voice. Interestingly, Villi also plays Doctor Casper Darling in Control.
The game will launch in 2023 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S consoles. Although the series’ original title launched more than a decade ago, the gaming community still regards it as one of the best games Remedy has made. With that said, fans are excited about the coming sequel, especially with the confirmation that is using the Northlight game engine, as well. Many gamers may be aware that Remedy’s Control is also using the same engine.
