Apex Legends Players Are Freaking Out About Latest Update Size

Season 10 of Apex Legends has recently launched, bringing a brand new Battle Pass along with a new Legend named Seer to the game. With a number of new changes to the locations found on World's Edge in addition to various buffs/nerfs to Legends, there's no shortage of things for players to check out. Unfortunately, it has been revealed that some gamers are having to wait a long time before they can actually play the game.

Recently, it was revealed that the size of the Season 10 update for Xbox systems is a whopping 60 GB. This is a considerable amount when compared to other platforms. PC players are able to hop into the revamped battlefields of World's Edge in a matter of minutes after starting the download. According to the community, the size of the update on Steam is only around 6.5 GB and around 9.2 GB on Origin. Even on PlayStation consoles, the update comes in at half of what Xbox players are seeing around 31 GB.

Apex Legends isn't the only game that has dealt with large update sizes. Other titles on the market have significant download times as well. One example of a game with very large file sizes is Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War which has a file size, when including all content, that is capable of reaching over 200 GB. Furthermore, download sizes for Warzone updates can exceed 50 GB at times. One major problem with large updates for games like Apex Legends and Call of Duty is that the issue is accentuated for those that have slow internet connections, causing large downloads to take hours to complete.

Despite the Apex Legends community's displeasure with the current size of the download for Season 10's update, players have dealt with far worse issues of late in the game. Over the past few months, Respawn has faced challenges stopping hackers and cheaters from ruining the competitive experience. The problems became so bad that pro players started the #SaveApexRanked movement in an attempt to make the developers address the situation. While this problem seems to have improved for now, other issues regarding loot boxes not working properly have hindered the gameplay experience for other players.

While this huge file size delays players on Xbox from playing the game for the first time at the beginning of the new season, at least the update is a one time download. However, the question remains as to why it takes so much longer to download the update on Xbox compared to other systems. Even though there are a lot of reasons to own an Xbox console these days, the update file size for Apex Legends' new season isn't one of them.

Apex Legends is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
