Boyfriend Dungeon to Update “Inadequate” Content Warning for Stalking and Emotional Manipulation

Boyfriend Dungeon

Boyfriend Dungeon will have its “inadequate” content warning for stalking and emotional manipulation improved in an upcoming update.

As previously reported; the game is part dating-sim, part isometric beat-em-up. Players must choose what weapon they use, which can also turn into a person. Players grind out wealth in “The Dunj” with their weapon of choice, in order to spend it on dates and gifts. According to the fan wiki, options include three men, two non-binary people, one woman, and one cat.

The game launched a few days ago, but it seems some fans were not satisfied with the game’s content warning. EuroGamer report the content warning asked users to “play with care,” and that the game “may include references to unwanted advances, stalking, and other forms of emotional manipulation.”

Developer Kitfox Games have now stated on Twitter that the content warning was inadequate, and will be updated next week to be more accurate.

“The content warning for Boyfriend Dungeon inadequately describes the events of stalking and emotional manipulation that exist in the story. We’ll update the game next week with a more accurate CW. We apologize for any hurt inflicted by our mistake. Thank you for playing!”

Boyfriend Dungeon is available on Windows PC (via the Microsoft Store, and Steam), Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. The game is also available via Xbox Game Pass for Windows PC, consoles, and the cloud.

This is not the first game in recent months to implement content warnings, or tackle scenes some may find unsettling. The developers of Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! announced the game would have optional content warnings prior to graphic scenes, and suffered censorship on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

Superhot VR was review bombed on Steam, after the developers removed “disturbing scenes” from the game. This was despite already implemented a toggle for it.
