Battlefield 2042’s PS5 Technical Test Canceled Due To ‘Critical Issue’

Battlefield 2042's first technical test took place over the weekend. However, those hoping to play on PS5 were told at the last minute that it wouldn't be happening.

The build to Battlefield 2042's launch really ramped up over the weekend. The upcoming title's technical test went live on various platforms. A lucky few were invited to take the game for a test drive. A better way for EA and DICE to discover any issues before moving forward with development and preparing Battlefield 2042 for its planned launch this October.

The first two days of technical testing on PC appeared to go well and heading into the weekend the test was supposed to be extended to consoles. That didn't quite go as planned. While Xbox invitees have been enjoying Battlefield 2042's technical test over the weekend, those hoping to try out the game on PS5 were stopped short right before the test was due to go live.

DICE's lead community manager Adam Freeman broke the bad news on Friday shortly before the technical test was slated to go live on consoles. “We’ve already identified a Critical issue with our submitted build on PlayStation 5 and have notified folks that we will not be testing on PlayStation 5 this weekend,” Freeman explained.

What exactly the critical issue was or is was not revealed. Additional information on that may never be made public. The problem will be fixed which means players, whether they be testing the game or playing the full version later this year, should never encounter it. Freeman adds PS5 players should stay tuned to EA's playtesting site for future opportunities. However, it seems unlikely there will be further tests before Battlefield 2042's planned beta in September.

Invitees who did get the chance to test the new Battlefield over the weekend had to sign NDAs promising not to show off any of the content they encountered. Some have ignored those warnings, of course, and EA has been busy scrubbing footage from the internet. It has also claimed sharing footage from the technical test will end badly for anyone who chooses to do so.
