Bomb Rush Cyberfunk Now A Timed Switch Exclusive

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk has just announced it will be a timed console exclusive on the Nintendo Switch when it arrives sometime next year. The Jet Set Radio spiritual successor had previously promised a Steam release in 2022 when it released its second teaser trailer in February.

Today's Nintendo Indie Showcase opened with Bomb Rush Cyberfunk's new trailer, as well as a brief snippet of actual gameplay showing UI elements and how to tag objects and buildings. At the end of the brief segment, Nintendo announced that the game would be a timed console exclusive releasing next year without providing any details.

Timed exclusives are typically from six months to a year, and if it's a year, that would put Bomb Rush Cyberfunk beyond its previously stated 2022 release on Steam.

In case you're just tuning into Bomb Rush Cyberfunk now, the game is being developed by Team Reptile as a self-proclaimed spiritual successor to the Sega Dreamcast classic Jet Set Radio. "In a world from the mind of Dion Koster," reads the game's description on Steam, "where self-styled crews are equipped with personal boostpacks, new heights of graffiti are reached."

The game is all about a fantastic look at urban street culture, tagging places to build rep for your crew before challenging rivals for territory. Bomb Rush Cyberfunk will also feature a unique trick system with "grinding, sliding, wallrunning, and tricking in the air" on both skateboards and skates–or from the looks of things, jet-powered shoes.

What really made Jet Set Radio unique was its music, so Team Reptile hired original Jet Set composer Hideki Naganuma to compose Cyberfunk's soundtrack. Expect the same funk-fueled beats to power your parkour as you tag your way to urban domination.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is still available to wishlist on Steam, but you might be waiting a long time before being able to play this game on PC.
