CDPR Now Targeting "Late 2021" For Next-Gen Cyberpunk, Witcher 3 Updates

CD Projekt Red held its first-half 2021 financial presentation today. As expected, a lot of the presentation centered around Cyberpunk 2077 and all the progress CDPR has made since the game's disastrous launch, noting that 10 patches and hotfixes have drastically improved the overall experience. It was even enough to get the game back onto the PlayStation storefront, which was a huge financial windfall (even though Sony still officially recommends against playing Cyberpunk on the PS4).

The Polish developer also went into the planned next-gen upgrades for both Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3. CDPR reiterated the upgrades would drastically improve performance, loading times, graphics, and everything else you’d expect from all the other PS5 and Xbox Series X|S upgrades that have come to many other titles.

We also got a slightly updated release window. From “second-half of 2021,” CDPR now says we’ll receive both next-gen updates in “late 2021.” Given how we’re already halfway through the second half of 2021, this seemed an inevitable clarification.

Besides the hardware upgrades, the Witcher 3 next-gen update will also include free DLC inspired by the hit Netflix live-action adaptation. It won't be exclusive to next-gen, so PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC players will also get it too. No word on what the DLC will entail, but we can likely expect some Netflix-style armor for Geralt and maybe a few cosmetics.

The rest of CDPR's financial presentation revealed falling profits and rising costs–a normal situation for a big developer that's currently in between games. Despite its dismal launch, Cyberpunk 2077 still made CDPR a ton of money, and it looks like the company will be just fine as it heads into whatever comes next.

Which, according to a recent datamine, might include a multiplayer DLC for Cyberpunk.
