Dead By Daylight Hits A New Milestone Of 100,000 Concurrent Players

Dead by Daylight has reached a new milestone by surpassing 100,000 concurrent players on Steam on June 30. The achievement highlights the growing success of the game in part due to a combination of its Fifth Anniversary event, the recent collaboration with the Resident Evil franchise, and a host of other factors that look to keep players invested long-term across several platforms.

The Fifth Anniversary event kicked off with a bang, offering current and returning players a significant amount of in-game currencies that allowed them to acquire limited-time items from character Bloodwebs, to purchase perks from the store or to save them up, as the developer states that enough of a specific currency will be gifted over seven days to purchase an original Killer or Survivor from the in-game shop.

While the event is already a major draw for players, thanks to earnable cosmetics and far more efficient gathering of Bloodpoints to level up their characters, the Resident Evil collaboration also served as a significant source of new player interest. On June 15, the Resident Evil chapter released with the Nemesis taking on the role of Killer, and both Leon Kennedy and Jill Valentine as new Survivors. On top of that, legendary skins could be purchased to take on the role of either Chris or Claire Redfield, so there is something for almost any fan of the franchise as they step into the fog of Dead by Daylight.

At the same time, unforeseen technical issues forced developer Behavior Interactive to disable the new Resident Evil map, an interpretation of the Racoon Police Station that is by far one of the best-looking maps added to the game. As the Anniversary event kicked off on June 30, the new map was finally enabled for use in ranked matches, giving players even more reason to come back and finally experience the winding halls of the police station.

Although 100,000 concurrent players on Steam is impressive, this is only a partial picture of how many players are in-game. In August of 2020, Dead by Daylight added crossplay, combining the player bases of PC, Nintendo Switch, and both old and new generations of PlayStation and Xbox. It would be fascinating to know how many players are actively in-game across all platforms.

While players are having a blast during the event, Behavior is now looking towards the future health of the game and have released a new developer update on their forum detailing several changes coming, some to characters in the game, and some relating to technological improvements. This means that in July, players can expect to see a buff for The Trickster, a round of Survivor visual updates, updated tutorials, HUD improvements, and better responsiveness for both roles when it comes to pallet hits and grabs.
