Iron Banner has seen some new additions in Destiny 2 this season. Two new weapons—Peacebond and Forge's Pledge—and a new armor set await those who dive into this playlist again. If you want to earn the new weapons without much hassle, you'll want to complete the "For the War to Come" quest.

For the War to Come is Season of the Lost's Iron Banner quest, asking you to defeat enemies with certain weapons and subclasses. The objectives are mostly straightforward, although completing them is another story. We'll give some tips on how to complete all five steps as quickly and easily as possible.
Forewarned, Forearmed
Forewarned, Forearmed: At any time during Season of the Lost, defeat opponents, capture zones, and get Energy weapon final blows in the Iron Banner.
Step 1 Objectives
- Defeat 30 Guardians
- Capture 10 zones
- Land 15 Energy weapon final blows
For the first quest step, you'll want to equip an Energy weapon you're comfortable with before stepping into the Iron Banner playlist. The goal is to land as many Guardian kills as possible, capturing zones whenever possible. If you're in a coordinated team, try to capture all three Control points at once. This will trigger The Hunt, giving your team bonus points for final blows for a short time. After The Hunt is over, all capture points become neutral again, giving you more opportunities to capture points relatively risk-free.

As for good Energy weapons, we recommend the following:
- Jotunn: It has aggressive tracking, one-shots opponents, and is just fun to use.
- Lorentz Driver: This is effectively Energy Arbalest that has periodic wallhacks. A great choice for all players.
- Le Monarque: With a high enough Power, this weapon one-shots lower Power opponents.
- Energy Hand Cannons: Pick your favorite. Hand Cannons are always a good choice.
- Gnawing Hunger: Easy to acquire, and even easier to use.
Clustered Shots
Clustered Shots: At any time during Season of the Lost, complete matches, capture zones, and get Pulse Rifle final blows in the Iron Banner.
Step 2 Objectives
- Complete 6 matches
- Capture 20 Zones
- Land 15 Pulse Rifle final blows
Pulse Rifles are powerhouses in PvP, provided you play to their strengths. Stay at mid-range, don't push too much, and try to land as many headshots with each burst as possible. Landing 15 kills isn't a big ask, but the type of Pulse Rifle you use can make all the difference. Here are a few recommendations:
- No Time to Explain: Has a short TTK and is fairly forgiving, thanks to Time Portal. Pair with Arc Soul for a fun time.
- Vigilance Wing: Two-bursts enemies if you land most of your shots.
- Gridskipper: This is one of the best Pulse Rifles in Destiny 2. It heavily flinches Hand Cannon users, has decent range, and is easy to use.
- The Messenger: See if you ever obtain a Messenger from Trials. A good roll of this gun—Kill Clip or Desperado—can rival most Exotic Pulse Rifles.
- Darkest Before: The Prophecy dungeon Pulse Rifle is one of the most consistent Pulse Rifles in the game. Great range, TTK, and perks to roll with.
Antipode
Antipode: At any time during Season of the Lost, defeat opponents, capture zones, and get Solar or Stasis ability final blows in the Iron Banner.
Step 3 Objectives
- Defeat 100 Guardians
- Capture 30 zones
- Defeat 10 enemies with Solar or Stasis abilities
Defeating 100 Guardians will take quite a few games for most players, so don't focus on that objective. Instead, keep your eyes on the ability kills objective. You'll want to bring a subclass you're most comfortable with, although some abilities are far easier to land kills with than others.

Hunter
- Precision Throwing Knife (Bottom Tree Gunslinger): One-taps Guardians if you land a headshot.
- Shatterdive + Glacier Greandes (Revenant): Deals absurd damage still. Throw a grenade when an enemy is charging you, then Shatterdive to break your grenade, killing the enemy instantly.
Warlock
- Celestial Fire (Top Tree Dawnblade): Tracks aggressively and deals good damage. Weaken a target before using it.
- Fusion Grenades (Dawnblade): With Starfire Protocol, you can throw quite a few Fusion Grenades if you play around your Rifts.
Titan
- Fusion Grenades (Middle Tree Sunbreaker): Use Ashen Wake. Get your Roaring Flames buff to x3. This will cause your grenades to one-shot Guardians and immediately recharge on kill.
- Hammer Strike (Top Tree Sunbreaker): One-hit kill shoulder charge. Use gear that reduces your melee cooldown as much as possible.
The Final Lesson
The Final Lesson: At any time during Season of the Lost, get Super final blows, capture zones, and get Sidearm final blows in the Iron Banner.
Step 4 Objectives
- Land 15 Super final blows
- Capute 40 zones
- Land 15 Sidearm final blows
If you're going to use any Sidearm for this step, use Traveler's Chosen. With the Exotic Catalyst, this is easily Destiny 2's best Sidearm for PvP. You can also use Drang or Prophecy's new A Swift Verdict if you don't want to use an Exotic weapon slot.
As for Supers, consider the following:
- Hunter: Golden Gun, Silence & Squall
- Warlock: Chaos Reach, Winter's Wrath
- Titan: Hammer of Sol, Thundercrash
A Finely Tuned Instrument
A Finely Tuned Instrument: Return to Lord Saladin in the Tower.
Quest 5 Objective
- Speak to Lord Saladin
You just need to talk to Lord Saladin at the Tower to finish the quest. It's that easy. Now is also a good time to turn in your Iron Banner Tokens to try your luck at obtaining the new Peacebond Sidearm or Forge's Pledge Pulse Rifle.
